I take Xanax for anxiety.

For a panic attack, breath in through your nose and out through your mouth and relax as you breath out.

Just remember that they always pass!

Hi C,

I'm so sorry you are going through this. I know what it feels like, out of control, terrified out of your mind. I had one yesterday morning.

I would question the Biaxin. It could be killing Bart, or I know of one woman who said she had severe mental issues with Biaxin, panic and other things.

If this is just starting to happen, I think it could be that.

Let me know how you are,

Ocean

C3,
First off, just in case you need to hear this: Cut yourself some major slack. You are ok. It's the disease that is making you nutso.

This is not your fault and emotional instability is not something anyone would choose for them selves... Don't forget that. You are still strong and powerful- you really are.

Now, aside from just trying to convince myself that I should calm down, I do have some things that I must fall back on.

Stress relieving herbal tinctures are great, but they have just as much of an impact as a seditive- Valarian, skullcap, hops, poppy, chamomile, and others.

Herbal medicine is big where I live. I don't see much discussion on this site about it. How unfortunate- natural substances are what God intended us to use... if you want to look at that way ...

Now, don't get me wrong. I do have my little bottle of Ativan (in the valium famiy) as well as an antidepressant and the boatload of lyme & co meds.

I used to smoke and drink to relieve stress. Gave those up long ago, and this seems wierd to suggest, but how 'bout a beer or a glass of wine?

I also have been known to hop on my treadmill and just start walking. I feel like I gotta get out'a my skin. Running and walking at least help me to feel like I'm shaking something off.

The self talk helps me A LOT. Getting outside and being with my animals is the best.

Do more of what makes you feel good.
Shuck a little of your responsiblities for a while. Let the vaccuming go if you can stand it... that kind of thing.

Hang in there, C3! You can do it! You are OK!
We're all here for you...

Thanks guys - you are the best. It's so nice to post and know that someone will have advice or at least encouragement.

I started Biaxin last week and symptoms kept

getting worse and worse. Sunday morning I had a

full blown attack. It was worse than anything

I've ever experienced. I had my husband call

roadside ambulance. They did their normal check

up and everything was normal. Then 40 miles

later I went to the E.R.

It felt like toxic build up in my system, and

every little visual, sound or smell seemed to

stimulate my body. I couldn't even eat without

one starting.

Anyone have trouble with Biaxin, are there
alternatives?

I don't want to take valium, Xanax (sp), but I may not have a choice.

I hate this disease!!!!

C3mom,

Are you home yet, or still on the road? Remember that generally people with Lyme will have panic attacks that last HOURS, not the usual 10-20 mins. Last fall when I went to the ER, mine had been going on for 4 hours, I thought I was dying every second. When I left the ER, I didn't feel any better. the exact same as when I went. For the first time I asked for an anti anxiety med. I just needed it all to stop. I took only a part of it b/c I was so afraid it would make me feel worse or something.

People with anxiety disorder usually feel fine once they get to the ER because they feel they are in a 'safe' place. Our panic attacks are different because they are caused by a physical thing. None of this is because you are weak. It is good to be humbled (as you said), but please don't beat yourself up. this is a physical reaction, that you have no control over (IMO).

I remember when my panic attacks would go away for awhile, I would think, "why in the world was I so scared? If it ever happens again, I'll be able to control it." Riiiighhhtt! Then when it happened, I was like, "what was I thinking???"

Do a search on biaxin herx and anxiety or something, you should see other's that have had the same thing.

I just quit my Doxy again for the second time, because I had another panic attack.

Call your LLMD and tell them, he may prescribe a different med for you if he feels it is a side effect.

I feel for you, I really do.

take care,

Ocean

I have lorazepam for this very reason and it works everytime...I only take it when I really need it but when I do I am thankful to have it. Would your dr. write you a script?

Zanax and just started Welbutrin. Doing ok. I never wanted to go on anything but some times a little help makes a big difference.

I went to my family doctor in the middle of a panic attack my heart was racing my blood pressure was up......

A little help never hurt anyone. Good luck.

You said: " . . .It felt like toxic build up in my system . . ."

I hope you are feeling better now but, still, I wonder if your liver support is enough? Hope you can ask your LLMD about that.

Thank you again. I am doing better today. I can't believe I'm still shaky and it seems to be happening the same time in the morning since Sunday.

I wonder if its subconscious thinking or if it may be cyclic due to the bartonella.

Char

I am stopping my meds till I get a prescription for the attacks. I have no desire to do them alone again [Smile]

Try sublingual B6 (P5P). Can order it over the internet. Source Naturals makes it.

AND...a B complex, orally (though our stomach acids destroy a lot of it).

Here is a one of many websites re: the B vits. and anxiety:

http://panic-disorder.suite101.com/article.cfm/vitamin_b_for_anxiety_and_panic_disorder

Here's how Xanax works:

http://www.netdoctor.co.uk/medicines/100002807.html

See the connection between B6 and GABA:

(The vitamin B6 derivative pyridoxal phosphate is a cofactor in the synthesis of GABA, which is why seizures occur in Vitamin B6 deficiency.)

Also note the following:

"Vitamins B6 also helps the balance of sodium and phosphorous in the body."

No. It's the science of the infection and the biology of the body.

I hope you feel better soon
