Brooke was a girl featured on A&E's Intervention program.

She was diagnosed with RA but had lyme symptoms.

She is posting on a post over on the General Support board.

The post is the one titled "Tonight on A&E's Intervention 9:00 Pacific"

Her screen name is brookeintervention.

She said she can't find any research that shows that lyme causes joint deterioration, and her xrays showed massive deterioration.

Does anyone know of any good studies showing joint deterioration with lyme?

Feel free to go to that post and reply there so she will see it.

Thanks so much!!!

hi dek,

so glad she posted!! i encouraged her to start her own post ...

don't know of anything BUT please go to TREEPATROL'S newbie links at top of medical.

look for the name ART DOUGHERTY; he did outstanding work at collecting things.

click on whatever link you find for him will lead you to everything else he did!!

he had shown all 300 other illnesses and how they and lyme compare, etc. WITH LINKS!

might be what you need there.

I remember a girl in our support group that had her hip joints x rayed or whatever it was and the Dr. asked her if she was a life long jogger.

She said no not at all and he said your joints look like they are worn out from a lifetime of jogging.

http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&rls=ig&q=borrelia+metalloproteinase&btnG=Search

Lyme leads to an increase in the production of the tissue-digesting enzyme matrix metalloproteinase, and this leads to the deterioration of the joints as well as of the brain.

No evidence, but I have joint deterioration! If not from Lyme, from what? My tests are all negative except for my Western Blot from Igenex.

Is this unusual? Are there other board members who have joint deterioration? I always just assumed it went with the terroritory.

This is not science based information, but I always thought that LD itself did not cause deterioration of the joints, tissues, etc.

I know people can get an autoimmune reaction after LD where the body continues to try and attack the bacteria, but the bacteria is gone so it attacks itself. This could then cause deterioration of the joints, etc.

Hi Kids

About 2 weeks ago ,I had a bone scan ,because I had shrunk about one and one half inches this past year.

We already knew I had degenrative disc diease in my cervical spine. But what we found was a pretty good case of arthritis, all the way down my spine.

In the scan none of my disc were able too be seen, because of the cloud, that covered my hole spine.(lyme arthritis).

There really is nothing that can be done, except for pain management, and more antibiotics too try and halt the degeeration of my spine. With in 2 years it has traveled from only the cervical spine, all the way down to my lumbar spine.

I never really noticed I was shrinking. Playing guitar has became all too painful.(again in my opinion lyme arthritis).

The only way I play on Sunday on our whorship team is too load up on 4 strong pain killers,4 hours before service begins. I think the lyme breaks down bone and conective tissue as a food supply.

I could be wrong I am not a doctor, and do not pretend to be. But such a drastic degeneration says more than plain arthrits too me.

Be as well as you can be
appleseed
