Can anyone tell me if they think I'm on the right track,

I'm being re-treated for Babesia with Mepron, Zithromax, Septra DS, Artimitisin, Lariam, and (Flagyl once in awhile). Does anyone have suggestions for other things to take instead/or add?? Am I missing anything?

Also does anyone know WHY the Night Sweats get worse during PMS? Will it ever go away???

I'm having a lot of anxiety today, any help is appreciated SOO MUCH!!!!!

You are taking the right meds. Give us the dosages of each med so we can check that for you.

PMS always causes a flare of symptoms. It will go away as you begin winning the battle over these diseases.

Dr B used 6 months minimum of Mepron (until Babs symptoms clear)- no breaks and had to be taken with a macrolide (Zithromax) to stop resistance...never on it's own.

And Artemesinin was added to stop resistance too. You are on a lot of meds...he would have maybe just used, Mepron, Artemesia, zith, Septra or Lariam...but no breaks.

Burrascano recommends 750 mg of mepron (atovaquone)twice per day plus zith daily the first time around treating babesiosis.

Then, on p. 24 he says this:

"Treatment failures usually are related to inadequate atovaquone levels. Therefore, patients who are not cured with this regimen can be retreated with higher doses (and atovaquone blood levels can be checked), as this has proven effective in many of my patients. Artemesia (a nonprescription herb) should be added in all cases. Metronidazole or Bactrim can also be added to increase efficacy, but there is minimal clinical data on how much more effective this will be."

Septra is Bactim. Flagyl is Metronidazole.

Here is the site for the document:

http://www.ilads.org/lyme_disease/B_guidelines_12_17_08.pdf

So, if you are taking the Mepron and zith only 3 days per week, every other week, that is not an adequate dose. If you are re-treating, you want to take MORE than 750 mg of Mepron twice per day. It seems to me Burrascano is saying to take this continuously, not the way you are taking it.

You also want your Mepron blood levels checked, since this is the second time you are attempting to rid yourself of babs.

The artemisinin should not be taken continuously. I took it 3 days in a row every week on an empty stomach.

Does your doc follow the Burrascano protocol?

I am following the Dr. J protocol...ha he has his own way of doing things...

I am taking 2 tsps of Mepron 2 times a day so isn't that more than MORE than enough

In total I'm taking 1,500mg twice a day...so 3,000mg a day. Plus all that other stuff.

Wow, that is a lot of Mepron. I could barely take 1/4 of a teaspoon without feeling my anxiety getting really bad. I was on 1 malarone a day for the longest time and that gave me bad herxs at first, but as time went on I started feeling better. Hope you feel better soon.

But aren't you taking it only 3 days per week, every other week? You are taking zero mg 4 days per week? and zero mg daily for an entire week, every other week?

If so, that is a lot different from Burrascano's tried and true method. He treated thousands of patients for over 25 years. That's a lot of experience your doc is ignoring.

And, "there is minimal clinical data on how much more effective" adding Septra and Flagyl are, according to Dr. B.

Do you know a lot of people who have been cured by the Dr. J protocol he has you on?

Isn't he in his second year of treating lyme? And, not full-time treating lyme?

You could try COPTIS and/or Raintree Amazon A-P.

COPTIS chinensis is a Zhang babesia herb that i've been taking for about a week. My babesia symptoms have disappeared, except for hot face at times.
I take 40 drops (1/4 tsp) 3 times a day with meals.
I bought a bottle of Herb Pharm brand probably from iherb.com.

Also about a week ago i started Raintree Amazon A-P, a bunch of antimalaria herbs including quinine. I take 2 pills 3 times a day with meals.

Since i started both new, it's impossible to know which herbs are hitting which bugs.

from pamois.

I took 2 tsp twice daily for 13 months total .... and Malarone/Lariam for 7 months total. I took Art the whole time. Biaxin or Zith with the Mepron.

I took this with other drugs for borrelia and bartonella.

I still have babesia.

You have to hit it hard.

Thanks, I'll ask my doc abou tthe COPTIS and Raintree.

and Sixgoofykids- my doc's whole philosophy is to hit the disease hard haha he doesnt hesitate to pound me with antibiotics while also making sure I don't become too toxic. I'm sorry to hear you've been dealing with babesia for so long though,

i hope you've found some relief
