I am thinking that my LLMD is going to suggest Rocephin for me next. Biggest problem - we have lots of outings planned for summer (boating, swimming, etc.). I don't want to miss out because I have a PICC line.

I've searched the forum for info about Rocephin IM. How is it compared to Bicillin? I am currently doing Bicillin shots 3 times per week. No big deal... Using a 21 gauge needle and although it hurts, nothing I can't tolerate.

How much does it cost compared to IV? Is it equally as effective? I'm not too worried about getting a PICC line in the fall. My daughter had a PICC line in January and I have PICC supplies coming out my ears.

I'm doing IM Rocephin injections. The main problem is, they need to be injected more often than Bicillin to be effective. They are definitely helping me though. I'm still in very bad shape but they are pulling me back from a very scary edge.

I don't know if I'm going to be able to pull it off long-term however. I have big painful lumps at all of my injection sites and am running out of places to inject. You could also do a week-by-week peripheral line and then if you're wanting to do outdoor activities switch to the shots for a week.

You would definitely not be able to swim or boat with a PICC line. It's really an amazingly easy process, but getting the site wet is a definite no no.
Good luck.
