Hello, I was wondering if the herxing goes away after a while with treatment or does it last for the whole treatment?
I just started my treatment, second week. We traced my symptoms to childhood and I am 45 now.
I am very afraid that I will not get better from this, because so far every doctor I have seen has made things worse, and let me down.
They gave me cortisone, when I told them it was making my pain worse so they told me I needed more treatments of cortisone. That was when I trusted doctors.
They made me almost bed bound. If I walk or sit I pay for it with severe burning in waist and legs.
Recently it has started in my shoulders also. We travel in a van with a mattress in the back.
That way I can lay flat and then sit or walk once we get to wherever we are going.
It is sooo hard to trust ANY doctor even my LLMD now. So I am asking you about the herxing.
PLEASE folks respond, I want to learn from your experiences. It is invaluable.

I'm sorry no one has replied. I wish I could tell you. I've been on ABX since Jan. and have not ended the continuos herx yet. I worry I may never see my old self again. But some people say after a few months they feel better. I hope that happens to me. Sorry I can't help but maybe my post will bring other comments.

If your herxing is too much to handle, ask your doctor if you can stop/lower the dose of antibiotics. I start at a lower dose and work my way up to a higher dose.

Everyone's experience is totally different. I hardly herxed at all. I was sick probably 10 years before I started treatment.
It can take quite a few months before you start to feel better.
It has now been 4 years since I finished my treatment for lyme, babesiosis, and bartonella. I am symptom-free, enjoying my life--the same life I had before lyme disease.
I wish the same for you.

Unfortunately, Lyme is not that easy to diagnose, easy to cure disease the IDSA has folks believing.
It sucks. They suck!
Your road to wellness will be rough and your sanity will be challenged.
They let you go too long undiagnosed and untreated. It will take a long while to feel better again.
If the going gets too rough.. let the doctor know. He/she can't help unless you do.

Thanks you guys for posting, I thought maybe I was the only one see my post the fist time?
Anyway I did call them because the meds were making me not able to eat. I have had 2 pieces of toast every day for a week now.
Can someone please explain in general terms what herxing really is? Is is a flare of original symptoms, or those plus more, or JUST a flare of original symptoms?

In my experience herxing is way worst than the original symptoms. Really affects you if you have a big load of lyme in your body.
Before i started treatment i always knew my pattern of getting sick and would have somewhat of a nice day.
Ever since on treatment i am way more sick. Just like you i have lost 14lbs not eating because my digestive system is rejecting to take food in.
I am not saying you shouldnt have no good days at all. However, in the begining of the treatment you can never plan anything because you NEVER know when you will feel so sick.
Everyone says herxing is like having flu like symptoms, more pain, irritation and more.
For me i dont knwo if i am herxing or have a flare. But i have noticed if i am herxing my originial symptoms are very mild comparing to when i am herxing.
