I am very full of adrenaline in the a.m. thru the afternoon. My herat rate is increased and I feel like I have to move.
I am also very lightheaded and having odd waking sensations in my head at night. In the late afternoon my HR calms way down and I feel more relaxed.
Doesn't make sense because I am taking flagyl 3x daily. I am on IV Rocephin too, but did not feel wired the first time that I was on it.
Thinking that it is the flagyl and some bizzare nightmares too.
Experiences????
Thanks, Feelfit

I only took flagyl for 6 days last year whilst on doxy. I got ****ed off and just went straight for 750 mg. I started feeling really lethargic and stoned on it.
Really weird head sensations too. Mentally it chilled me right out to be honest. It was actually nice compared to the anxiety stuff from the doxy. By day 6 I was fairly ropey and had to call it quits.
I didnt have any doc support and I felt I needed to be on a good cell wall drug like bicillin to maximize its effectiveness.
I will go on tini soon.

Dear feelfit, The last time I took Flagyl, I was just plain queasy and had diarrhea. My stomach was extremely unhappy. Someone told me that it was a herx. I have not been diagnosed yet, because I am still waiting for WB results. I had another odd experience with Amoxy.
I developed symptoms I did not have before going on it. The first few days of it, I had a sore throat and stiff neck and shoulders. It was really strange. After that, I got the symptoms with my stomach again. This was quite odd, since I never had that occur while on it before.
Sincerely, Jin

Thanks guys. Any other experiences?

I loved Flagyl actually. I gave me energy, but also did weird things to my CNS. The LLMD said it would, and he was right. Weird numbness and tingling, quivers, etc.
I did 2 3 week pulses of it.

It just sank in my stomach like Lead. Blecch!Worst Immediate reaction to ANY pill I've taken for the Lyme. The I started taking 1/2-tabs twice as often. Helped. But, overall, it didn't seem to do much. Then again, I didn't use it long enough (<2 weeks) to really tell. :/
I understand it hits the cyst form of B.B., something I haven't treated properly. I may go back on it for a month- at normal ILADs dosing- & see how I do.

I pulsed this drug for 5 days a month - I would feel irritable and unnerved - would get upset at silly things. I had numbness and tingling in legs. Day five I would have pain at night (lying down) so bad couldn't sleep, would have to get up and do something. It would also give me chills and low grade fever.

thank you. I am not tolerating it very well. My heart races. It feels like my hearing comes and goe. I will have to look up the drug and it's potential side effects.

How ya doing Wiggy?
Posted by jarjar (Member # 8847) on :
It was the toughest ABX that I dealt with when I was doing standard lyme treatment.
I had to pulse it at low doses and never felt good while on it and was glad to stop taking it.
Posted by seekhelp (Member # 15067) on :
Are these cyst busters really this necessary? Has anyone beaten Lyme w/o them? I mean late stage lyme.
One thing I never understand is how Dr. B supposedly had Lyme and knocked it into tomorrow with JUST Ceftin. How when he states you need to put out heavy ammunition? It's so contradictory.
Posted by feelfit (Member # 12770) on :
I have had the same questions Seek. I know that there are two schools of thought with LLMDS...
Some say yes, necessary. Others NO. Again, it makes me nuts trying to sort it all out.
I am also starting to feel like a failure because I am having problems with tolerating meds. My head symptoms get totally unbearable.
I'm lost.

thanks jarjar for sharing Posted by seekhelp (Member # 15067) on :
I understand Feelfit. I hear so many here on 4-5 Abx, anti-malarials and more. Then I hear others who take one thing like Amoxicillin and are in remission after 6-8 months. It really makes you think some people just have so much more than Lyme or maybe not Lyme at all and something different. It's so complex.
The guessing by all the docs drives me absolutely up the wall. I know they do their best. It's hard to pop high-risk drugs on what if scenarios.
I just yet to have seen any Rx where I wake up and say wow, this truly makes me feel better. It's like either I'm in a bad rainstorm or a hurricane. The sun never shows. Posted by feelfit (Member # 12770) on :
Same here Seek. And I can't find any umbrellas or storm shutters. Posted by jarjar (Member # 8847) on :
You betcha Feelfit my heart goes out to anyone on flagyl.
I remember when I started taking it I thought they needed to put a warning on it saying:
Caution if you have lyme, Flagyl can take you to the gates of hell.
Thats how bad I felt on it. I just wanted to crawl up and die.
Posted by Jin (Member # 11735) on :
Dear jarjar, That warning sounds like a good idea to me! All I know is, it is odd that I reacted to it the way I did after taking it before for other ailments. Why would I suddenly not tolerate it? I had the same issue with Amoxy. It could just be the yeast, though.
Sincerely, Jin

Hi Feelfit, I am doing ok - herxing at the time waiting for it to pass. Mine is always leg related pain from waist down - can't stand up...terrible balance. I can't imagine doing flagyl full time. CPNHELP.ORG uses flagyl or tinidazole in its CAP protocol. We would only pulse as much as we could tolerate and stop. It seemed that most people tolerated tinidazole better than flagyl. More doctors would prescribe flagyl as its an old drug....Hang in there
Posted by feelfit (Member # 12770) on :
Thank you Wiggy. I am going to call and ask for tini instead, see if I can handle that better.
Pulsing sounds good too! Hope that your herx ends soon!

I got weird depression feelings on it. My mind was racing and I was having yucky dark thoughts. Of course I never know if it's really caused by the abx I'm on or just happens to be a lyme symptom I'm going through.

It gave me transient global amnesia--meaning I didn't know who the f*** I was, what I was doing, or where I was, and had to work it all out based on observation of my environment at the time.
Best,

I didn't do well on Flagyl - tingling in arms and legs plus dizziness. I later tried Tindamax and had no major issues with it.

I switched to tindamax today
Thank you everyone for sharing your experiences.

Ugh. Flagyl was the worst Rx I was ever on. After the first day I was literally on the living room floor 24/7. I started at 1500 mgs and had to cut back to 250 and work back up. I lasted 10 days. Was never happier to get off a med. Lyme seemed like a walk on the beach compared to how Flagyl disabled me.
Good luck FF.

Sheesh...am I the ONLY one? I have the tingling, numbness, dizziness regardless of what rx I'm on, prior to ever taking rx - that was just some of the many other symptoms that made me aware something was terribly wrong with me - seems to be caused by all the infections. Albeit, maybe some of the rx's increase it...I can't really decipher.
That being said...I have been pulsing flagyl for the past month, 4 days on - 3 off, I haven't noticed anything other than my typical feeling bad, waxing/waning symptoms. TS
Posted by feelfit (Member # 12770) on :
Well thanks beachcomber for the shared experience.
TS I always have those sx too but they are exacerbated to my humanly limits with flagyl.
Talk about wired..oooooooooeeeeeeee!!!! No sleep, and when I did serpents with womens heads spewing greeen phlegm....yuck.
Oh and maybe it is the combo of flagyl and rocephin? When I stoped the flagyl for 2 days I slept awesome. Was not ready to run 3 marathons....had to have been the flagyl.
Thanks all, we'll se how the tindamax goes

What have people experienced doing IV Flagyl?
Posted by Cass A (Member # 11134) on :
From the pills--
Suddenly, I became aware I was sitting. I have no idea how long I didn't even know that!!!
I had no idea who I was, where I was, what I was doing.
I was sorting mail--I had no idea what I was holding in my hand, what I was supposed to do with it......
Later, I found out this state--complete not-knowing about ANYTHING--is called Global Transient Amnesia.
