I have been on Ceftin since April 1st. Usually it just tastes bitter and I eat after and everything is fine. Well, I just got a refill yesterday and took a pill this morning. The pill did not taste bitter but totally different and then I burped up the weird taste for an hour. I felt a little nausea but nothing horrible. I called the pharmacy b/c it was strange. He told me that most likely the manufactuer changed an additive and he was sorry he could not offer a better explanation. He told me to take the next dose and if it happens again he would give me the number to call the manufacturer. What do you think? Has this ever happened to you? My husband told me to skip my nect dose, have my LLMD call it in to a different pharmacy and see if it is the same. The pill looks the same and has the same number on it. Anyway, just looking for an opinion.

For me, I'd try one more time... but I live dangerously!!!

The ceftin pills I take are white and look like they are made out of chalk. They taste terrible and start dissolving once they hit my tongue.

Yes, mine ae like that as well and they are very bitter. This taste was weird. My pharmacist was poopy with me so I went to a different pharmacy.He took one sniff and said to not take them. He told me to get a new Rx and they will try to override with insurance.

I was on ceftin too and it tasted like crap, but I would try it one more time too see. The guy at the drug store is in most cases right. I think they know more than the doctors when it comes to our drugs. appleseed

Appleseed/JT... our doc always said to run drug questions by the pharmacist because they knew more than he did about drugs!

Hi all,
I just thought I'd chime in and mention my trick for taking ceftin -- eliminates the bad taste.
I take a large sip of water, tip my head back, and hold it in my mouth. Then as I drop the ceftin in my mouth I immediately swallow the water. The ceftin never hits my tongue and I don't get the gross taste.

The taste isn't so horrible to me - what freaked me out was the different taste. Usually just bitter. When you open the bottle to smell it is really funky smelling.

If you dip the ceftin in some oil (or even use oil that comes in a spray can), it not only prevents the bitter taste, but it goes down a heck of a lot easier too.
That's good for any drug that tastes bad, and/or is chalky.

For the love of god, why oh why don't they make the Ceftin with a thicker coating? Maybe it impacts the efficacy somehow...

Go ahead & call the maker! On the vial in tiny letters If they don't have an acceptable answer... and Especially if they don't Have an answer, I'd followup w/ that other pharmacist & get another Rx from the nurse after explaining the situation.
