After years of on again, off again, pos. and neg. lyme tests, I'm finally working with an Inf. disease Doc. for chronic lyme. But the symptoms are worse than ever. Now one eye hurts, the joint pain is awful, the headaches, memory lapses, brain fog, neuro-muscular pain jabs, etc. etc. Is this the right therapy for me? Is this just that Herx business? Will it ever go away?

I've heard doxy makes you feel worse before you feel better, but for 3 months that kind of sounds long to me, but I don't know much.

Hi Micpal. I am pretty sure it was at least six months before I started feeling better. Then I went downhill again, due to undetected babesia duncani.

Have you tested for coinfections? With a good lab, that is? That can really hold back progress and your symptoms sound babesia-ish. (New word I just made up.)

You could also give the doxy a rest and try a different antibiotic. Your stomach will probably thank you!! For me, high dose amoxicillin + probenecid was a staple of treatment. Zith/Biaxin were also good. It seemed ANYTHING was a step up from Doxy, at least for me.

Another thought: with those brain symptoms, have you considered IV?
