Just got the new Avon book and see the bug guard sprays... is the bug guard plus IR3535 deet free the right one?
Also - is it safe for kids?
Any thoughts?

I'd use Lily of the Valley Cologne.
"The repellent effects on nymphal stages of Ixodes ricinus L. of some plant materials have been studied in the laboratory.
The plant material consisted of an ethanolic extract from Achillea millefolium L., and volatile oils of birch and/or pine tar, citronella, cloves, eucalyptus, geranium, lavender, lily of the valley and peppermint.
The most pronounced effects were observed for the oils of citronella, cloves and lily of the valley.
They possessed repelling activities of the same magnitude as the reference repellent DEET (N,N-diethyl-m-toluamide).
Some major constituents of these oils, e.g. citronellol and geraniol (oil of citronella and lily of the valley) and eugenol (oil of cloves) showed pronounced repelling effects.
This was also the case for phenethyl alcohol, a minor component in the oil from lily of the valley.

The chemoattractant for Bb is glutamate. No surprise!

Hey mush...
I recommend the Bug Guard Plus IR3535, Expedition.
Be sure to get the UNSCENTED!!!
I can't read the can to see if there is DEET.... but I don't think there is.
I like the spray can because of the fine mist and not oily feeling.
I CAN get the guys to wear it too because it is unscented and won't hurt their chances while hunting.
In heavy duty tick areas I also recommend using the Permanone (Repel brand). That is ONLY to be applied to clothes.
Rather than just repel insects... if ticks crawl across it they die.
It is great for chiggers, etc. too.
It lasts two weeks on clothing even after washing.
Read all labels and take all precautions.... always.
And keep out of the reach of kids.
May I ask... what is the price right now?
I THOUGHT I was being smart and ordered 6 cans one winter for the next season. (I give away a lot of it).
NOT smart. It cost double!!!
So if the price is right... I may want to order mine now too.

All of the Avon Bug Guard products are DEET free. Just an FYI -- the Expedition brand has an SPF 30 in its product whereas the Bug Guard with Picaridin does not.

I need something for using indoors - I have 2 dogs and although I check myself constantly I reckon it's just a matter of time before I am bitten because I have never seen so many ticks as I have this year. And I already had my yard sprayed! Could I use this as an extra precaution on a daily basis without using something that is too toxic?
