Recently I've noticed my tongue feels very strange. Almost like it's been scalded or burnt. The sides are kinda swollen and I've noticed small little bumps under it. A few days a go my throat felt sore. When I looked in the mirror I noticed a small bump (blistery) on the upper part of throat near roof of mouth. This is gross but it almost looked like a zit. It was whitish in the middle and very red and irritated around the edges. It was only there for like a day and then mysteriously disappeared. I don't know if this is lyme related or something else. I've never had anything like this before? Maybe i need more vit c? I don't know very weird though? Anyone have any clue? THanks

Does it burn or hurt? If so, it could be apthous ulcer. You can look that up on Wikipedia. For me, allicin helped.

I have very similar problems. In fact it was the burning tongue, slight sore throat and stiff neck that sent me to the doctor asking for a Lyme test.
At the time I suspected Lyme, but wasn't very educated about it. It took a lot of persuasion to get my PCP to order the ELISA test. Of course, it came back negative and I was too uninformed to know any better.
Anyway, when I went to my first LLMD appointment in March, 2009, and told my new doctor about this on-going tongue burning problem he said that is often a symptom of Lyme. It feels like someone has poured hot sauce on the tip of my tongue.
It comes and goes, but is present about 50% of the time.
I get the little white bumps in my mouth too. This sounds really gross, but I pop them. Usually they drain and dry up quickly. Sometimes they re-fill and I have to drain them again.
All these things happen despite the fact that I am a fanatic about taking care of my teeth. I have always been obsessed with oral hygiene.
I don't know if the white bumps are Lyme or Bartonella. I have a lot of Bart skin issues so I suspect that is what causes this.

Leelee, Yes! I tried to pop it too, but I couldn't it was too far back! It seems you and I have a lot of similar symptoms. And yes my tounge especially the tip feels burnt. Also the taste buds on the tip are inflamed.

It looks like many get this same thing! Maybe I'm not so weird after all! haha... My tongue is also more "burnt" on the front. The white bumps are pretty small, but I think they look like blood blisters except white (although the ones under my tongue are usually skin colored. Gross!!

Hi threx and kareamber,
Both of you described my tongue and bump issues to a tee!
Nobody could figure out what I was talking about because of course the bumps would always disappear when I was at the doctor's office!
And, as for the burning tongue, they must have thought I was just crazy. One PCP suggested allergies so I went to an allergist who tested for many things, but I wasn't allergic to anything.
I kept thinking that it had to be Lyme! And I was right! Posted by glm1111 (Member # 16556) on :
Parasites/worms....I have had them break through the skin in my mouth and come out......check out
try swishing around some sea salt in your mouth..I also brush my teeth with listerine..it is antiparasitic..contains thymol

my husband used to get white pimples like in his mouth and to the point where you could not understand him at all since they were so sore & sensitive.
my own tongue gets small pimples on end & it feels like it's burning also! thanks for additional info about this. xox
read the symptoms list of worms again and many fall into that area...

For four straight years I had a mouth on fire - and with many Aphthous ulcer. Allicin helped at one point but I had to stop due to how it raised tinnitus for me (most patients do not get this effect, though).
Several months ago, after starting on andrographis, within one week, my mouth markedly improved. Within two, nearly all better. And it's stayed that way.
I've taken a week off here or there and the mouth is still good. Amazing stuff. But, as the allicin was a bit too speedy for my system, andrographis is very sedating for most. So, be aware.
After the first week or two that gets a bit better - and it is very calming to the central nervous system so that helps me in many ways.
Andrographis can also cause some stomach upset, so it's best to take it with food at first.
The probiotics in the mouth - and a spilanthes mouth rinse helped, but it was not until andrographis that I found total relief. Still this is a great mouth rinse:
WHAT IT DOES: Licorice root is sweet in taste and cooling in action. It detoxifies poisons from the blood and liver, and reduces general inflammation and pain.
It moistens and heals the lungs and digestive tract.

If you have high blood pressure, it'd be best to have the DGL kind of licorice:
Yes, hot/burning tongue symptoms here too. It all started with Lyme and company's other symptoms. Also my tongue goes numb, tingles etc. I don't know about the white bumps, haven't checked that closely...I think I'd rather not! Just one more thing, ugh. Also, I get too much saliva sometimes.
I attribute this all to Lyme and co's. My LLND says tongue symptoms are pretty common. Seems to me it's just more cranial nerve malfunction, IMO, (I get facial numbness as well). You're definitely not alone. TS

Please try andrographis. It was a miracle. I did all that cranial-sacral therapy, too, but nothing worked like andrographis.
Within one week you will know if it will help or not.
