i think i'm going to just stop all meds and try to do herbal like buhner.
i have been on biaxin since last year but this past couple of weeks have developed excruciating stomach pain.
it comes at night and feels like someone is cutting out my stomach with a knife...i lay curled in a fetal position but it doesn't help.
i've been awake now for 2 days and nights because of the pain.
it seems i react to every single drug negatively...flagy gave me massive yeast, others gave me c. difficile, others i break out in red and purple blotches...
i am so discouraged. maybe i just need to take a complete break. i feel like my poor body has had enough and is saying "i quit, you keep this up and i'm going to kill you...."
i know some of you have had to go alternative and i'm hoping that it has worked for you.
it looks like i'm going to have to go that route also. i feel llike antibiotics are killing me and not the lyme.
help....

I am on Biaxin, 1000mg once per day.
At first, I had stomach pain that lasted hours, beginning about 1 hour after swallowing it.
For me, it is my stomach trying to break down the pill. It was a horrible gnawing pain.
Since I am on the regular tablet, not XL, I cut them in half before taking them.
I get just mild gnawing that only lasts a couple of hours.
(I had the same problem with multi vitamins, until I went with Trader Joe's natural kind)
Maybe this idea will help.

i am on regular biaxin one 500 mg per day. i take it after breakfast.
the pain is moderate during the day but, man, at night, it comes with a vengence.
i am almost in tears. everything ends up having horrible side effects and i feel worse taking it.
maybe herbal is the way to go cause i haven't seen any real improvement on antibiotics except the muscle twitching seems to have let up a "little"...that's about it. no big leaps for me..

Could you have developed an ulcer or acid reflux? It sounds like you have more going on than intolerance to Biaxin. You should definitely talk with your doctor.
If you decide to go the herbal route, it might be good to consult with an ND. An ND might be able to work with you to reduce your symptoms and heal your stomach. You might even be able to go back on antibiotics with their help.

Just a quick note- sometimes you can be allergic to the inactive fillers of the medication and not the active ingredient.

Biaxin kicks my guts around pretty good, too. What has begun keeping mine under control was changing probiotics. I now use Ultra Primal Defense (I get mine at Vitashoppe, you can get it online too). I've tried many, and this is the only one that helps my stomach issues with Biaxin.
Also, the TEVA brand of Biaxin gives me the worst stomach pains. I don't know why. I googled it once and found some results related to it. Anyway, I always ask my pharmacist to give me a non-TEVA brand and have noticed a difference from that, too. The pain is not nearly as nasty.

Biaxin was absolutely the most difficult antibiotic I have ever taken. I know exactly what you mean, Randi,...the stomach pain is excrutiating.
It messed up my gut so bad I have had to stop all antibiotics for a while.
