Yes, they do admit that it can cause serious problems if not addressed early.

While this is much better than most media posts, just for the record, I'm not sure about the percentage of patients who get the rash. The number they give seems high, but it points out that the rash does not always appear and that's the main point.
Slides #5, #6 and #7 did have some errors in the text:
# 5 - I'd correct it to say that other ticks CAN carry infections and there are many kinds of tick-borne infections to consider.
# 6 stated: " . . .Insects such as mosquitoes, flies, or fleas cannot spread the disease to humans either. Only infected ticks have that honor."
Correction that I would make: Actually, there have been documented cases of mosquito transmissions.
And, for slide #7 - I'd correct to say that a spinal tap or skin biopsy is NOT a good diagnostic tool as they, each, can miss a lot of cases.

Other ticks do transmit the disease. I live in Montana and was bitten by a wood tick, got the rash and was misdiagnosed - been sick with lyme and bartonella for 3 years.

George W Bush was bit by a lonestar tick and got the illness. Of course as well all know he was given treatment immediately right there on the spot and it continued for 11 months so he never developed any problems.

At least they recognize long-term IV antibiotic use.
pryorka - where did you get the 11 month treatment figure for G.W. Bush? It would be a nice thing for people being cut off at 4 weeks to be able to mention.
