I recently started Malarone and am waiting to start the Bactrim because I fear that it will cause my anxiety/ panic attacks to get worse.
I take Klonopin and Valium daily because of how bad my panic attacks are.
I have a couple of doctors appointments far from my house and I refuse to start it until I am done with the appointments.
Anyone with advice?

Just from my experience, I've had increased anxiety since starting Septra DS (Bactrim is the same). I have NO CLUE if it's because of the Septra, but I never ever had anxiety problems before I took it.
I've been on it a month and just started have really bad anxiety a week ago or so. So it could be something else that causes it for me.
It's probably good to wait until after your appointments until you can have some time to get used to the Bactrim in your body. Especially if you're driving, the anxiety is no fun : (

....I don't equate anxiety with speediness. bactrim acts like a pep pill for many of us...it'll cost you some sleep till you get used to it, but that's not anxiety.
But if you're the type who likes the feeling that the benzos or benadryl or even pot gives you you'll probably feel uncomfortably wired for a few days. But not anxious....

I don't know if the Bactrim caused my anxiety to get worse, but I do know that Bactrim caused me to herx pretty badly. And Bactrim 2x a day = major herxes.
Also, remember that not every med acts the same way for everyone. Maybe you won't herx as badly.

I think you are smart to wait until you're done with your appointments if you suffer from anxiety before starting any new medications.
Sometimes a new med can cause herxing and that in and off itself can make one feel a bit edgy or anxious.

Thanks for the responses.....
disturbedme, I will be taking it 2x a day....
If I herx, that would be great! I know I know, you all think I'm crazy, but I haven't herxed in 2 years!
Yeah my anxiety on a daily basis is through the roof. Always very edgy and irritable.
I can't see any good side effects coming from it other than the fact that it may help me conquer this disease/co's.
Thanks again!

Kreynolds,
Do you see a psychiatrist for your anxiety issues?
It sounds like it would be best to wait until your appointments are done before starting Bactrim.
I would start at a very low dose of Bactrim to see how you respond to it.
Good luck!

pab,
Not currently. I have seen many and none have helped.
They push anti-depressants on me which I end up having very bad reactions to.
Just last week I was put on Provigil for fatigue and needless to say it backfired.
I have been on Nuerontin,Paxil,Lexapro etc... you name it, I have been on it.
All 3 of those meds landed me in the ER.
I feel that in order to fix my anxiety, I have to get rid of the Lyme and Coinfections.
I have made huge strides from 2 years ago, but still falter at times.
The way I see it is if you take a persons brain with Chronic Lyme like myself and you take a healthy persons brain.
Give them both the same anti-depressants/anti-anxiety meds they more than likely will effect each brain differently.
At least thats how it works in my case. I always look for anxiety on the "side effects" list on any med I take.
Reglan(used for my gastritis) 2 years ago was the worst possible reaction I have ever gotten anxiety wise.
I think for now, if it's not broke, don't fix it....
The Bactrim is a high dose.........
Thanks for your help!

Kreynolds, I am glad to hear you say that you have made huge strides. Remember that you said that! you were worried about not herxing on any meds. Not everyone herxes. So remember...you are improving! Are you treating babs now? If I remember, you just found out that you have it (test). My new doc says we all have everything, that he doesn't care about tests, and that we all need to treat everything.

CD57,
Yes I am treating Babs now. I was on Mepron,Zithro and Artemesia for about 2 months.
I am currently on Malarone,Zithro, Artemesia and will be starting Bactrim soon.
I think I will herx from the Bactrim, we will have to wait and see.
My doc stopped the Levaquin about a month ago and I think I feel the Bart coming back
Like you said, a good doc will say that an aggressive treatment is to treat for everything.
It will be a long process, but fear some of the meds and the reactions I could have to them.
Just last week I was given Provigil for fatigue and it backfired.
Sometimes I think the best medicine is no medicine at all!!
Thanks for your response! Haven't heard from you for a while!

I started bactrim on 4-25 took it to 5-10, heart rate was 110-120, tried speed and coke in college and felt like that, but never wearing off, went from 8-10 hour of sleep to 4-6. Also have been mis-diaged with GAD, so even pounding benzos didn't help chill me, I stopped taking it. I couldn't work feeling that I can't drink even drink coffee or pepsi, feeling speedy like that for a day is bearble but after a week straight no way, theres gotta be an alternaive
I though herxs made you tired and achy, not feel like you got shot out of cannon, its gotta be adverse reaction, that drug is loaded with em on the patient review sites and anxiety, tacychardia and breathlessness are all part of it.

...I like the speedy feeling...guess we're all different.
Back in the hippie days I did diet pills while most others did pot and quaaludes.

losferwrds,
Thanks for your reply. WOW... Yeah I don't think my heart would be able to handle that.
I take Coreg for HBP and Tacychardia and don't need any more problems.
charlie,
LOL I can see how it would be a "nice" feeling when you are tired all the time.
I think I will consult my doc about this because I am very concerned.
