I have had distressing, intolerable stomach and bowel issues for a few months. They actually began before I started abx so I know that isn't the cause.

My LLMD wrote me an order to be tested for parasites at LabCorp.

Does anyone know which parasites LabCorp tests for? It is test 008623 Ova+Parasite Exam.

She is also testing for yeast.

Thank you,

Leelee

Test Number: 008623 CPT Code: 87177; 87209

Test Includes: Concentration of material and examination of specimen for ova and parasites by conventional iodine/saline and trichrome staining.
This will not detect Cryptosporidium, Cyclospora cayetanensis, or Microsporidium

https://www.labcorp.com

Go on the website and click Provider and then click Test Menu.

It is a long page and it won't let me copy the link here.

The lab that is recognized to be the best for parasites and GI problems is:

http://www.diagnostechs.com/

Got to test & panels, then GI health panels, then overview for doctors and it shows what they test for.

You may want to check them out.

Thank you for the link, Kitty. I don't know a thing about parasites except that a few years ago one of my dogs had giardia and we treated all my other pets with abx too, just in case. Apparently it is highly contagious among animals.

When my LLMD suggested parasites might be the cause of my problems I was stunned. I had never even remotely considered it before and I must confess I am a little freaked out by the thought.

But, on the other hand, I can't go on like this, so we'll see. I'll go to LabCorp on Monday.

Abxmore, thank you so much for your information. I had my adrenal testing done by
Diagnostechs and I was quite pleased with their service. Maybe if LabCorp doesn't show anything, my LLMD will re-test me at Diagnostechs.

Leelee,

Check out the symptom list at

www.humaworm.com

Parasites and worms play a major part in Lyme disease. There are over 1,000 species and impossible to test for all. The lab missed mine,

glm, thank you for the link. I actually stumbled upon that website earlier today and it really got me thinking and worrying.

May I ask how you were diagnosed?

Do I understand correctly that the parasites are transmitted by a tick bite?

Thanks!

Leelee,

It's very hard to get a dx for parasites. Everyone has parasites. You can safely assume you are among the fortunate. I just started taking antiparasitic herbs and what came out of me was unbelievable.

If you decide to do the herbs make sure you do it long term and take the in-between herbs if you do humaworm. It takes a long time to get rid of them.

Check out the parasite posts that have been posted lately. Sparkle has posted a lot of great info. The parasites can be transmitted by the ticks. Check out the Filarial worm connection

www.lymephotos.com Hope this helps,

Gael

Thank you glm. I haven't been following the parasite topics, but now that they may be relevant to me I'll do a search and read them.

I started seeing an herbalist a few weeks ago and have an appointment with her next week. I will ask her about herbs for parasites.

This whole subject gives me the creeps and it just one more reason to hate the ticks. [Mad]

I appreciate your reply.

Hi robfar,

The test came back negative for parasites and yeast, but I was still not convinced so I asked to be tested with Diagnos-Techs. Several people had recommended that particular lab.

That test came back negative for parasites as well, but I did get some interesting results. [Cool]

I was positive for yeast (+1,trace) and highly sensitive to gluten. I also was sensitive to milk and soy. Never in a million years would I have suspected I had food allergies!

Anyway, my LLMD suggested a gluten-free, dairy-free, soy-free diet. I am on day seven now and I feel amazingly better already. The thought of eating any of those foods again makes me cringe.

As for the parasites, I am not completely convinced I don't have them and apparently neither is my LLMD. I was told that it takes three negative tests to truly be considered accurate.

Thanks for asking! [Smile]

It doesn't hurt to run the test through a standard lab but they are not generally as thorough as you'd like. I had good luck with Metametrix. They found some gut parasites and H Pylori. H pylori is somewhat common but it can do a lot of strange things to your body. I would imagine these effects would be somewhat exaggerated in the presence of lyme or other conditions in which the immune system is operating sub-par.

Can they detect parasites in an LP? I don't know if that is ordered in mine or not.........

I'm having lots of issues with coordinating this LP I have scheduled for this Thurs. I may have to reschedule it, unfortunately.

Yes, Leelee, I made a note in my book. I never thought of parasites as my ART testing showed none. But I hate being sick so much, I try everything.

Terri,
I think they do not look for parasites in the LP
but more for bacteria. In my case they told me they found 3 white blood cells and that was normal. They look for these things.

The LP can only be useful if the Lab who is doing the tests is knowledgable of your diseases.
Most people in my waiting room had MS.

I was totally sick at that time and had the highest amount of barts ever seen and high fevers and the LLMD found lots of things but they found 0 in LP. My vision was very bad.

They can do thousands of uncomplicated blood tests, why not doing these? The LP is expensive.

You see I am not a fan and also they told me it is harmless but in the last minute I had to sign that death can be a side effect.

I am not afraid, I also had a surgery with a LP and was uncomplicated. Of all tests the LP is the most dangerous test and they only get very little fluid, just one vial. They can not order so many tests.

I have no medical education, and I do not know your case!
