``It's hard to put a number on how common misdiagnoses are, but early detection can be difficult," says Auwaerter. "It takes the body some time to generate enough antibodies to show up in testing, and the symptoms are common to many other ailments. There's a general sense that if you have the infection longer, you'll have extended symptoms.''

So many things in this article really hit home to me.

The leaf blowers . . . not finding a quiet place to live . . . people not understand that everyone's voice sounds like they are shouting. . . everyday, wondering if I'll make it through 'cause the fridge is just so very loud . . . .

It was really brave of this author to face his pain and write about this.

While this is not just about the noise, there are many causes of hyperacusis that people should know about. Lyme is just one of those but this article, I hope, really gets the attention of those who have no clue.

I do wish he had interviewed some ILADS doctors. There is much more about lyme-related hyperacusis than the "specialist" who was quoted. Much more. I think he dismissed it, really.

Still, overall, an excellent and very touching article. We should be honored that the writer shared this with us.

Sadly, it was not on the NBC Evening News tonight, though.
