I took my first dose last night (300 mgs) and woke up with puffy eyelids and then 2 hours later I had two red blistery like things on my cheeks. Is this an allergic reaction or something that goes away in time?

I started zithromax last week and I haven't had any reaction. I also take 300 mg. (every other day).

I would not risk taking another dose until you talk to a doctor.
A girl I went to the school with had an allergic reaction to an antibiotic recently, and is fighting for her life right now. They still don't know if she will make it.
Look up Stevens-Johnson syndrome. It's the blisters that have me worried for you.

Don't take it again. Have a doctor look at it, and if that can't be arranged quickly, take photos.

The blisters are gone today but my eyelids are still puffy. Is it only serious if the blisters remain?
My doctor said to take one more dose tonight. If the same thing happens again then I'll probably have to stop taking it.
Would I also have a reaction to Biaxin if I have this reaction to Azithromycin, or are they different? I thought I heard they were in the same family.

Just a suggestion I'm not a doctor. If you are going to try it again give it a few days so your eyes can heal. Then try a much smaller dosage like 1/4 a tablet.

I had an allergic reaction to Zithromax about 10-12 years ago. It was a Z-pack dispensed at a walk-in clinic for bacterial bronchitis, but I don't recall the dose.
After I took the last pill, my eyelids swelled up, almost closing my eyes. It was really unpleasant. It took about 2 weeks for it to go away, and I ended up having to go to the eye doctor and get steroids. This was years before the Lyme dx.
If you have this kind of reaction after one pill, I wouldn't chance taking any more without talking to your doctor. The same inflammatory process is going on everywhere else in your body, and you may end up with trouble breathing or other dangerous symptoms.
I think I might have had a rash on my face, too, but it's been too long ago to remember for sure.
I put Zithromax on my list of med allergies now, and I also don't take Biaxin or anything else related.

Ok, now I'm reconsidering taking even the 150 mgs. My eyes aren't swollen shut, but I wear contacts so it's a little uncomfortable.
