OK coincidence or not, I don't know but I need advice.
Monday night we noticed he had a blood spot on his head that looked like a tick may have been there. Never did find one though.
All of a sudden yesterday he spiked a 103 temp and was very lethargic out of no where. I of course panicked and brought him to ER because of his breathing history and hir resp rate was 52-60. HR 180. (He's 2)
Got to the ER they did not take any blood, just gave him m more meds for the fever, gave him a shot of decadron (steroids) because of his COPD. I asked them if it could be start of Lyme, they said the famous "we he doesn't have the rash, so no" and sent us home.
Fever so far is gone and he seems OK, but how could he have just had a fever like that unexplained for 3 hours and then just get better??? I am wonder if that was one of the "first" signs of Lyme?????

Get him on antibiotics as soon as possible.
Glad to see you post.
Sorry it is about your baby.
Sending prayers your way.

I agree with Geneal.
I would not hesitate at all. Get him on the ABX, at least when he is on them you won't worry so much.
Hope All Is Well

Will you be able to take him to an LLMD for evaluation and testing?
Though it is possible he got Lyme, he might have *also* gotten something not covered by certain antibiotics, or something viral or protozoal, which would need something else entirely.
Most, if not all, of the tick-borne infections I am aware of can cause a spiked fever in acute infection.

deaf,
print out these 2 pages dealing w/dr. burrascano's treatment med dosages/abx for KIDS and adults...
Sorry about your baby. I can answer your question about the fever...........Our little one, now 7, spiked fevers nearly from the day she was born for no reason.
We would take her to the ER and they would find a "Little" bit of an inflamed ear or say she had a virus or, or or,........... you know the story.
Her fevers would go up over 105. When she was 3 I figured out she had Lyme, along with her Mom. So she was born with it, which explained so many things.
She would also vomit non stop until we medicated her. So in answer to your question. Yes, children with Lyme can spike a fever without a moments notice and it can be gone as quickly as it started.
Go Figure!! Good luck with your little one.

I've never been a mom but I have heard that a fever like that unexplained for 3 hours - does happen and it may be just fine.
However, with the appearance of what may have been a bite - AND the steroids, I think it is vital that you take no chances.
They should be reprimanded for giving steroids if there is even a slight chance of lyme and they should know that not everyone has the rash, for crying out loud.
I can see that we are going to have to establish underground ER room that know how to treat if lyme is possible.
So sad.
Good luck. I hope you can talk with your LLMD soon and get his opinion.
