My 6 yr old started treatment 3 days ago. Takes azithromycin 250mg in the AM and omnicef 300mg after supper. In between he takes a probiotic. All is going well.

No signs of herxing, or at least anything that he complains of. I'm happy about that, but wonder, does he have to herx to get better?

And after starting treatment when did herxs begin for you?

Oh, and gotta tell ya...

I'm one happy Momma here. My 6 yr old has learned how to swallow his pills. My oldest couldn't do that until he was 12! : )

My daughter has been on abx 16 months. Other than the first month, when she was on amoxicillin, it has never been clear to me that she herxed. That is one of the questions I have for the doctor when we go on July.

I have been treating for 9 months and herxed for the first time last week. Even before I herxed, I was thinking that it felt like I was holding my symptoms off with the abx, but that I wasn't making any progress towards getting and staying off from them. Now that I have herxed, I am thinking that I need to be herxing more to get better.

songbird,

My child, who is around the same age as yours, definately had a herx, early in tx. He initially took ceftin, but continued to decline, so zith was added, shortly after which he had a herx reaction.

Fortunately, the herx only lasted one night. His whole body hurt, and he couldn't bare to be touched. The next several months were rough, with many new and unpleasant symptoms developing, then slowly but surely they went away.

At this point in time (almost 2 years after the diagnosis) he is doing very well, but still not quite symptom free. He has night sweats and still has an abnormal eeg, indicating seizures. BUT he can run and play and has excellent grades in school, and he has not had pain from the Lyme is a long time.

I wish you and your child the best, and am hoping for a speedy recovery for your child.

My 12 year old herxes with fatigue and pains and weakness in his legs. All manageable so far. 5 months on abx.

My little guy herxed really bad on Transfer factor, and when on abx, herxes with behaviors.

All is manageable, but the transfer factor herx was scary. He was lethargic and nearly unresponsive.

Congrats on the swallow factor. That is AMAZING!
