If the tick is EMBEDDED, get to a dr. now! Get on 3 months of doxycycline for an adult; kids need amoxy.

They need 2 extra months showing NO SYMPTOMS before stopping antibiotics! Otherwise, they will become CHRONIC LYME.

I've had chronic lyme 39.5 yrs; MISDIAGNOSED for 34.5 yrs. by 40-50 drs. UNACCEPTABLE.

Thanks for the good report. Dress with LONG sleeves, long pants, SOCKS/shoes, hat, and gloves when working in garden & walking in parks/trails. Thanks!

Chester County - June 3, 2009 (WPVI) --

Officials at the Chester County Health Department said they already have 30 confirmed cases of Lyme Disease this year.

And they're investigating at least 400 more probable cases.

Health officials there said each year they see more cases of Lyme Disease. Last year there were more than 2,000 cases in Chester County.

The infection is spread by ticks so doctors are reminding everyone to use insect repellant.

And check yourself, your family and your pets for ticks.

The safest way to remove a tick is to use tweezers, pull the tick straight out, in one smooth motion.

Don't use alcohol, vaseline or a lit match as this can make the tick hold on tighter.

Most cases of Lyme Disease can be treated with antibiotics but if it is not detected and treated early, late symptoms can be serious.

If you do get sick, be sure to tell your doctor you had a tick bite so you can be tested.

Symptoms of Lyme Disease can mimic other illnesses but early, common symptoms include:

-an expanding circular rash that looks like a bull's eye

-fever

-joint and muscle pain

-headache, chills, fatigue

-swollen lymph nodes
