I started Biaxin/Plaq again 4 hrs ago. I made decent progress on this combination before my 10-day protocol ordered by my LLMD ran out.

I was feeling like death hit me for 3-4 days on Rifampin alone and nervous beyond belief. I didn't take Rifampin the last two days per my LLMD. Not being on it didn't help much w/symptoms.

2 hours after taking 500 mg Biaxin/100 mg Plaq, I got super shakey, heart felt like it was thumping a bit, etc. Then a 1/2 hr later, it was like a calmness came over me and my energy improved, the jittery feeling improved, the other symptoms got better, etc. I'm not great by any means, but so much better than the last 3 days.

Could Biaxin be that effective that fast? If so, what diseasse is most likely to be suppresed by this medication. I highly doubt it's the Plaquenil as that's a long acting drug I believe.

Am I nuts? lol. I'm guessing I have a worthless immune system on it's own. [Frown]

I think Plaq is good for babesia, but also heard that the plaq and biaxin go hand in hand. The plaq is supposed to make the biaxin work better. So I guess Lyme and babesia, not 100% sure.

It sounds like you are switching meds very frequently by your posts. I am not a doctor, but I believe you have to stay on a med for at least 4-6 weeks to tell if it is working. Just a thought. [Smile]

One of my 5 year old boys just recently added biaxin into his protocol after slowly getting worse and worse with manic, OCD and aggressive behavior.

It is been on only 6 days since we added it and I have noticed an improvement. I am very excited about this! He got worse with rifampin and omnicef but is now getting better with rifampin and biaxin. The improvements are very subtle but I am noticing them.

Our LLMD said that biaxin goes after bart and lyme.

Hmmm..maybe it's the anti-inflammatory part of Abx that work for me and the IDSA is right about post-Lyme syndrome. Makes you think...

The only thing that provides any relief during herxing for me is Ibuprofen (anti-inflammatory). Benadryl is useless, charcoal does little, chlorella does nothing.

I know Marcie about the med switching. it's an issue I'm having due to my protocol (bad lack of clarity on what to do next from office) and inabiiity to tolerate some stuff. I'm very frustrated.

I wonder why my LLMD's nurse said Biaxin goes after Babesia. I swear no two people say the same story. lol.

Seekhelp, it does make you think! Makes me wonder if that is the reason so many people don't feel well after years of treatment.

Biaxin was a GREAT drug for me! I took it for 18 months.

Biaxin/PLAQ goes after babesia, but not biaxin alone .. at least not in my opinion. It's not nearly as effective as clindamycin/quinine or mepron/zith.

I don't think I'll be able to get Rxed Mepron/Zith so that may be out. Moreso, due to cost and non-insurance coverage. I'm guessing my LLMD may Rx it if I push. I still have 1/2 bottle left..lol. My old insurance paid.

Wow, Biaxin for 18 months? That's quite a stretch. Sometimes, IF I saw improvement, I'd rather take the same drug that this endless mixing/matching in quick spurts.

I took Biaxin + Bactrim for over two years before I started to react to the Bactrim. I was miserable, so went off both of them.

Nearly all my Lyme symptoms (I had three coinfections) are gone. That's after 27 years of illness. Only the joint pain remained, though it was better.

Then it began to get worse after I stopped the antibiotics. So I've just started the Biaxin again (no Bactrim). I will probably be started on Plaquenil too, within the month.
