For the last couple of years I have been hearing diabetes described as an "auto-immune" disease.
Lyme is the master of "auto-Immune".
I would like to do a poll on how many lymies have diabetes, not hypo-glycemia. I would appreciate any participation to my simple questionaire.
1. Are you pre-disposed to diabetes?
2. Did it get worse with lyme?
3. Did it onset fairly quickly w/lyme
4. Has it improved w/lyme treatment?
If you have any other questions you think I should add please let me know.

I do not have diabetes, but do have Lyme, Bartonella and Babesia.
My sister has Type 1 diabetes despite the fact that no other family member has had it (including grandparents, aunts, uncles, etc).
She has never been tested or treated for Lyme, but I am convinced she has it based on her symptoms. I honestly believe her diabetes is related to Lyme somehow.
I know this is not exactly the information you requested, but thought I would offer it anyway.

I have type II diabetes that was diagnosed around the time I was diagnosed with LD.
1) No one in our family has diabetes at all. I am a little over weight, but not grossly obese.
2) My blood sugars are higher when my symptoms are worse with my LD. Sometimes I can eat anything and I don't have a problem with high blood sugars. I am on 3 oral meds that don't seem to do anything. I am also on insulin. That is the only thing that makes a dent in the high blood sugars when my LD is acting up.
3)The onset seemed very quickly, but I wasn't looking for it before they found it, so I'm not quited sure.
4)It has not improved with treatment so far, but I still have alot of symptoms(even after 7 years of treatment).

YES, I'M 3RD GENERATION: grandma; her son/dad, and me! they were both insulin; so far NOT yet.
2. Did it get worse with lyme?
i was misdiagnosed with lyme 34.5 yrs; my diabetes 2 was diagnosed 6 months PRIOR TO CORRECT DX!
i've fluctuated from 1st being 7.0 down to being a perfect 6.0 up to 7.4 !! losing just 10 lbs. will help our a1c numbers!! last one 7.2; triglycerides still 200; down from 300 though. hubby is 69 tri!!
3. Did it onset fairly quickly w/lyme?
when they put me on a different anti-depression/mood pill, i gained 25 lbs. in 6-12 years; that's when diabetes 2 dx cam about.
4. Has it improved w/lyme treatment? same as no. 2
5. do you have NEUROPATHY from your diabetes? yes, bad in feet; some in legs.
6. have you had a stroke or heart attack due to high chloresterol and diabetes?
HIGH NUMBERS will bring on stroke/heart attack faster since our A1C numbers are NOT under control!!
i've had 1 mini-stroke confirmed by MRI, but have no idea when .... they said decades ago!
7. are you an insulin user? how long? NOT YET but heading that way says dr. the longer we have diabetes.
