I very suddenly went from a full head of hair to having areas where my scalp shows much more than it did.

Both my husband and the person who cuts my hair have confirmed that they noticed the loss as well.

I have been in treatment (as well as my 2 year old son) for over a year now.

I was emotionally a wreck over the diagnosis and herxing for 9 straight months.

I finally started to feel really, really good in January and have felt pretty well ever since.

The problem is, now I've noticed the hair loss. I'm so worried about this.

My doctor said it might be stress related, but she's checking my hormones, as well.

So far, just my free testosterone level has come in-it was low (.7). I'm a 30 year old female.

Does anyone have any ideas? I think I'm losing a normal amount of hair now ( I guess we lose about 100 hairs a day ), but I'm worried what I did lose won't grow back.

My doctor is also going to check my cortisol and DHEA-s.

Please help.

Oh yeah, and she checked my thyroid levels and iron-they're fine.

Hi lymer,
I may be way off base here but when I used to run a support group, I had one woman in the group with exactly the same problem as you, and it turned out to be due to hemolytic anemia caused by taking too many narcotics.

If you are not taking any narcotics for pain, just ignore this, but if you are, you might ask about that.

My niece is losing a lot of hair, too, she has bald spots. I have heard other Lymies complain of this, too.

Plaquenil can cause hair loss and I guess other meds can, too. (It caused my hair to have a lot of breakage as opposed to hair loss). Have you checked your meds for this side effect? Here is a site I often use, I'm not saying they have all the known side effects listed, though. They may or may not. http://www.drugdigest.org/wps/portal/ddigest

I had hair loss with Biaxin, but not severe. I have read several people losing up to 50% of their hair with Mycobutin.

My doctor says that there is actually no test that can accurately tell you whether your thyroid levels are okay: it has something to do with the way the hormone changes while in your body. He has me on a VERY tiny thyroid supplement--and my hair, eyebrows, and <blush> other hair all grew back.

I've had a lot of hair loss initially from Diflucan, then more from Biaxin (didn't realize that at the time).

So far my thyroid, hormones and labs checked out okay. Just saw the dermatologist and he said my scalp looked healthy (I thought I might have had a yeast infection).

Sorry you are having this problem too....hope you find out what's going on.

Thank you for all the replies. I am not taking any narcotics, no Diflucan either. However, a couple of you replied that Biaxin caused hair loss for you...I've been on Biaxin now for several months. Maybe that has something to do with it.

Thanks for all your help,

Lymer

Try Biotin, some people need up to 10,000mcg.
