Does Rocephin IV expire? We have the type that has the saline solution seperated from the rocephin.

You then mix the rocephin into the saline solution.

We had to stop the IV for a week and a half and some are out of date now. Is it ok to use the ones that are out of date?

Does the saline solution or the Rocephin expire seperated?

We dont want to throw them away because we are not sure on how many others we will get without paying for them.

Any help would be great. Thanks

The IV bag and ceftriaxone vial do not have dates on them? The IV bags usually have the date right on each one, the vials may only have the exp. date on the box. Until they are mixed, they both should be good for a long while - months or years past the manafacturing date, but you do not know what that date is without the exp date stamped on each unit.

Once ceftriaxone is mixed, it expires pretty quickly - the expiration time for reconstituted ceftriaxone is available on the drug manufacturers website, and is dependent on concentration and temperature.

Call the pharmacy. The expiration date for both the saline and the drug should be clearly printed. I would never use medication past the expitation date.

I found that there is a expiration date on each of the ceftriaxone and the saline. They are good until 2010.

So the date they put on the printed label basically doesnt mean anything. And no, we do not mix them until we are ready to use them. I think we are good to go. Thank you for the reply's
