Has anyone experienced side effects n taking Astralagus? Specifically anxiety? I started on it yesterday & I've had severe anxiety attacks since last night & now all day today.

I've goggled it & can't find anything like this listed.

It's not so much a side-effect as a property. It is a very stimulating herb. For those with weak adrenals, anxiety will usually be a result.

Astragalus can really "wire" me. I tried it several times years ago. Then I found out that I should not be taking it. It is a very "yang" herb (very stimulating) and way too strong for anyone with a depleted body. Not to be used in advanced illness except as a small portion of a larger formula - then it can be quite helpful.

This article discusses properties of "Yang" herbs and why those who are weak need to balance with "Yin" herbs. "Yang" herbs tend to have force and "Yin" herbs nourish and calm.

ASTRAGALUS ROOT (Astragalus membranicus)

Excerpt:

. . . Astragalus also excites the central nervous system . . . .

The author above does not suggest what to balance it with. Do you have any cordyceps on hand? Magnesium? Fish oil?

Any of those can help calm the nervous system. Cordyceps is a "Yin" herb and nourishes the adrenals, so might help calm the anxiety you are experiencing.

Can you take a warm bath in epson salts?

If you feel you are having a reaction, then stop taking it for a few days and see if you notice a difference.

It might not be for you.

When I too AG Immune, a blend of ARoot and protease, it really seemed to help me over a hump in my treatment.

But I think everyone can be different.

Good luck [Smile]
