My pcp/llmd (LOVE HIM) is recommending I get the chest line (not sure what this is called exactly) it'll go just above the breast. For some reason it can get wet as it has a diaphram... so not as bad as in arm but MUCH more painful insertion.
He is concerned since I am tiny of gallbladder risks and wants me on alternative claforan.
I spoke with Infuserve and you have to dose this more often, the downside, but they said upside is that I can produce a strong herx and kill bugs off more quickly. And no to low risk of bilary sludge/gallbladder.
They recommended having an epi pen handy and benadryl. Any thoughts on this?

I am currently on Claforan and have had no problems with it. I am also at a higher risk category for gallstones, so that is why my LLMD prescribed it.

claforan can cause your white blood cell count to deteriorate to dangerously low levels.
my wife ended up in the hospital, in quarantine, during christmas of 2004.
monitor the therapy very, very closely.

I think all the abx can do this, not just Claforan. People get pulled off Rocephin, etc, for the same reasons.

Is Clarofan a new drug? Or is it just not often used for Lyme?
Just wondering due to only 2 people responding with experience on this drug...so if it's not a new drug then why aren't more patients on it?
My concern is that it's not prescribed much for Lyme either because not as effective as the more common IV txs, or worse that it is more dangerous as in LymecaregiveNY's experience.

Claforan is processed thru the kidney as opposed to the liver. It's a good ABX but one has to be monitored very closely. A small percentage of
people have adverse reactions to it that can be serious. Keep your epi pen near by and if you feel
any thing strange, shortness of breath, difficulty breathing anything that feels like anaphylactic shock get to the ER ASAP.
As far as Rocephin and gallbladder sludge it still puzzles me why it is even used when it's not a great ABX, there are so many other options and it's know to put the gallbladder at risk.
I think we have enough problems to contend with.
It's not a new drug. I think many LLMD's are hesitant to use it because of the small percentage of people who have adverse affects from it. I don't know anything about the IM shots, only IV.

I've been told Rocephin is the only drug that is actually FDA approved for Lyme Disease, all the others are used off label.
Therefore, they pretty much all start with Rocephin.
