I stopped Rifampin about a month ago. Every once in awhile I still have urine that is a weird color--pastel pinkish orange.
Is this serious? I've been ignoring it, but my husband saw it just now and he is very worried. I'll call the doctor tomorrow.

Bayer produces urine dipsticks ( Walgreen, you have to ask for them)with 10 markers. Also consider gall I from Dr. Z if your doctor allows it.

Are you consuming anything at all that is red or orage, like B12 shots? Anything to drink? If not, then I have to agree that it warrants a call to the doc.....

Yes, I am taking B12 shots! I had one this morning, and had the pink urine this afternoon.
My husband just told me that he must have given the shot too deep, so that some went into the
muscle, causing pink urine. Yay, I'm glad I don't have one more thing to worry about.

What fresh hell is a urine dipstick? Posted by jessie86 (Member # 20045) on :
Janice, that b12 can absolutely make your urine Pink!!! our bodies use what it needs then excretes what we don't in out urine.
i know how you feel i did the same thing and i about had a heart attack when i saw it. i thought it was blood.
so now it's one less thing to worry about Posted by jblral (Member # 8836) on :
Eating beets can also do this. Beets make your #2 pretty interesting, too.

Urine dipstick:
it is a little paper thing and has 10 testfields like for kidney disease, liver problems....glucose, protein, ketons .... It is the same as your doctor uses when he tests your urine.
Everybody who has urinary problems or bile problems should test at home. Saves a lot of time and always take morning urine for testing.

Aren't B-12 shots intramuscular?
It's my understanding that if you get pink urine, you're doing it right.
If you don't, you're getting the shot sub-dermally rather than in the muscle.
Does anyone know?
Posted by jessie86 (Member # 20045) on :
from what i have been told, yes they have to get in that muscle so the b12 can be used by the body, dr said they found that its better instead of sub dermally

I've read that pyroluria can change the urine to a pinkish, sometimes mauve color. I think it can vary.
There are some good threads on it if you search pyroluria or KPU. Good luck.

porphyria

I have been doing the shots and I don't have colored urine. I would still get it checked.

There is a porph group, if you have more questions on that. I think with porphyria the urine only changes color when you leave it in the sun. Porphyrins are often elevated with lyme.
