I have been on Zithro 500mg for 4 days, had this same thing happened while on Ceftin 1000mg

I keep getting a tickle im my throat and a dry unproductive cough. I drink a ton of water and doesn't seem to help.

Does this happen to anyone else? Does it mean I have bugs dying in my bronchial tubes?

I was off abx for 3 weeks while changing docs and no cough, back on em 4 days, cough back...

I've had this repeatedly - bad on some abx, not a problem on others. Recently it seems like the abx (I've been on them five years) are creating some kind of reflux because if I take something like Pepcid or Aciphex, my cough often goes away for awhile.

I also feel like I have some kind of post-nasal drip that may be irritating my bronchial airways. I guess it's either from the abx or yeast.

I have Babesia which can also cause a dry cough. I didn't know I had Babesia until recently but I've been coughing for a long time.

I do find that drinking hot herbal tea really helps when I need to carry on a long phone conversations.

I have been on ceftin 500x2 for last week.

I am coughing up sputum with tiny blood striae.

So I don't know if it is Bb or a parasite.

Plan on taking care of both.

Also on Zithro and also have coughing. Although the cough was preceded by a cold. But my husband got the same cold and did not have this hacking, dry cough.

I have had this one other time during treatment for Lyme -- the first time was when I originally went on Zithro.

I do think it is the Lymes dying in the respiratory system. I take Robitussin CF for the worst of it, it does get a bit better after awhile.

I have cough-variant asthma, which means I cough instead of wheeze. It is a dry cough like you describe.

It could be inflammation or a mild allergic reaction, especially if you get short of breath.

Be careful if it gets worse and call the doctor.

I finally had to go to the ER the other night with mine because it kept getting worse and I got short of breath after one dose of minocycline.

I finally broke down and used my Advair inhaler (steroids) and am trying hard not to have to take a course of steroids, which is what the pulmonary doc recommends.

So if you have a history of asthma be careful.
