- For the last three weeks my voice keeps going. Sometimes it's fine, other times hoarse or completely gone. There's
no rhyme or reason to it. I had no voice when DH came home, an hour later it was fine. The last few days I've had a
sore throat that comes & goes in severity. It ranges from mildly annoying to not wanting to swallow. No one around
me has been sick like this, wondering if it could be the Lyme?

I get this all the time. I also feel like my throat wants to close up. I think it is from Lyme.

Lyme can affect any of the cranial nerves, including the Glossopharyngeal nerve, which is the 9th cranial nerve.
I have a related diagnosis called carotidynia and get sore throats and pressure feeling around my neck. It feels like someone has their hands around my neck. It is inflammation around the carotid arteries. Can be very uncomfortable and anxiety-provoking.

Oh my goodness ConnieMc I was just on the phone talking to my grandmother explaining to her about this weird thing going on with my neck, the feeling of someone having their hands around it. It's been going on now about 2 months or so talking about anxiety, I was soooo scared when it first started happening!

Thyroid problems can cause the voice to become hoarse.

An experienced physician can make this diagnosis by palpating along the carotid arteries and feeling for inflammation.
The doc said something about a "bulb" he could feel on the nerve branch (I probably botched that explanation but that is what I seem to remember)
Funny thing was that this was one of my very first symptoms and it went away over the course of treatment.
I had it on and off but not consistently once I was well into treatment. About 6 months ago it started again and never went away and before long I realized I was relapsing.
I started treatment again this week and hope it will go away.
Google "carotidynia" and then "carotidynia and Lyme" and you will come up with some interesting hits.
Good luck ... I have not found much that helps it. But it did do alot of good to finally know what it was. It is scary when it gets bad.

- I'm on synthroid for hypothyroidism. Have been on meds for it for 30 years. The Dr monitors it.

My voice gets hoarse sounding at times and it can get high pitched and wavering.
The hoarseness use to hit when I was tired and the other voice problem when I had tremors. Now it can happen anytime.
Sometimes it would be gone totally w/o warning. I do not have to rest my voice to get it back. It comes and goes when it wants.
My LLMD suspected it was from the Lyme, but because it went on for months she referred me to an ENT.
I had two exams with him, he scoped me twice. He said my vocal cords were spasming and he felt it was a neurological effect of Lyme.
