Sorry this is a strange topic, but I would just like some opinions, because if this gets too bad I might have to go to Prompt Care since it is a weekend, or go to the ER.
Have any women ever gotten that severe, sharp pain in the lower parts of the large instestine, or maybe it is actually the anus, when you are on your period?
For me, it will just be this sharp pain that will come, then fade. And it is normally when things (bowel-related) are moving around in there, if you know what I mean.
Almost like the walls of the intestine or anus are hurting to have something move in there.
Well, I just had a miscarriage and surgery, and I'm not really bleeding much at all afterwards like they told me I would. But, I am getting that pain, and it is increased when I have a bowel movement too.
I was just wondering if there is some kind of medical cause for this that involves the uterus being full, etc.
Sorry this is not lyme related, but I'm in a lot of pain, and if it gets too bad i'll have to go to ER.

Hey Hoos, I'm so sorry you're in pain and that you had a miscarriage - I had no idea. Did you ever experience this pain prior to the miscarriage? If it's a new pain and it started after then you definately need to go to the ER just to get everything checked out.
I have endometriosis as a result of Lyme and I've had sharp shooting pains in my er, anus, as ell...always when I'm on my period. It gets your attention for sure. Very painful.

Call your doctor to be sure...not even going to second guess this.

I have sharp pains "there" too once in a while. To me it feels maybe like a spasm, but it is very painful. Usually for me it only last a few minutes. I have no idea what causes it.

This is also what it feels like to have an episode of diverticulitis.

Yes, Lauren, I get this during my period...that is why I vaguely recognize this feeling. I get it most periods I would say, but maybe only one or two episodes of it, and they will last like 15 seconds each.
I might have endometriosis, because I often have very painful periods. However, it hasn't been severe enough for me to seek treatment for endo.
Even though I am not on my period right now, it is just that feeling that is familiar that I described, but it is actually worse I'd say, more on-going.
With my period, it would only hurt like that before a bowel movement (not necessarily right before though; could be 30 min before when things "move" as I said)....but now it is the same pain while I have the bowel movement too, which is terrible.
(sorry that this is a little graphic!)
I took 4 ibuprofen and laid down for awhile, and it has been better this evening.
So, hopefully I won't have to see a doctor, but if it gets bad again maybe I would.
But since a few people here seem to know what I am talking about, I feel better. I think maybe this is the same thing, just worse because of the circumstance.
I will watch it though and go to the ER or Prompt Care this weekend if I have to.
Thanks for listening!

If anyone here has endometriosis, I highly recommend you get a bioidenctical progesterone cream.
Estrogen builds cells, which leads to tumors and scar tissue if out of balance.
Progesterone removes dead cells. Chronic illness uses up progesterone quickly causing an imbalance.
It cannot hurt you, and can only help.

This has been happening to me every month since having my son 12 years ago! I had him by c-section and assumed that it was adhesions and have never told a doctor about it.
It seriously feels like someone is twisting a knife up inside me and the pain is so intense for those few minutes that I feel like I could pass out.
I had no idea that this happened to others. If you find out what it is, come back and let us know!

I don't get this around my period, but I do occasionally have sharp spasms in my rectum after a bowel movement.
And that's exactly what it feels like--a muscle spasm.
It can get som bad thst I have to lie down for a minute.
I don't know what causes it; I told my gastro, and he just looked at me weird.
I had a colonoscopy in 2007, which was clear, so he didn't worry about it.
But if it bothers you, I'd at least call your doctor and see if you should go to Urgent Care.

Hoos,
I am so sorry about the miscarriage.
Hopefully you are feeling better by not but if not,
My humble suggestion would be to call your doctor (s) that performed your surgery. They probably have an answering service on duty and someone can call you back.
I know this is not your situation, but I have/had similar pains when my ovarian cysts flair up. Pain especially in that area during a bowel movement. (swollen in the fallopian tube area).
