Hi Schaller mentions in his 2009 update book that takes 2 Zhang's Artemesiae three times a day did not offer a cure. He indicates much higher doses used with antioxidants may be needed.
However he states 8 three times a day is VERY unwise.
I am confused as to what the dose needed is!
What doses are others taking and what antioxidants are needed whilst on this ?(which he stresses are important also).

Depends on whether you're using Mepron, Zithromax or something else plus the Artemesiae. High dose Artemesiae isn't necessarily needed if using multiple sources. My physician prescribed 2 x 3 (6 per day), with 2tsp of Mepron twice per day, and 500mg of Zithromax, with 200mg x 2 of Plaquenil, 2.4mu Bicillin Inj, 100mg x 2 of Minocycline.

I believe someone told me on here that grapefruit seed extract helps with the pro oxidative effects of art. Did you read this particular antioxidant is important in the book??
I am currently doing Mepron 2 tsp 2 x day, biaxin, and 3 Zhangs art pulsed every other day. I'm following the bottle label directions. I might start taking daily again (which I did for about 8 months w/out art) and pulse the art 4 days on 3 days off.
Would love to know if 3 pills is sufficent or more is needed too!
I do agree with metalic blue it depends on what else you are taking with it. Definitely take artemesia with a macrolide to prevent resisitance.
And can someone clarify if GSE and other antioxidants are needed???

I also forgot to mention that the 6 capsules per day is only for 5 days per week. 2 days off (usually the weekend was my time).

METALLIC always has good detail in his posts.
Just remember, whichever protocol you decide with your LLMD, artemisinin is never to be used alone. So, regardless of which protocol Schaller referred, alone, artemisinin would never be enough - regardless of the dose.
And antioxidants will not be enough to go along with it, either.
You can read more about Zhang's thoughts in his book and at his site. If you want to follow that protocol, there are other, very specific things to include. Antioxidants can be added but they will not be enough.
You MUST have other very specific substances that directly affect the babesia protozoa or, if combined with artemesinin, strengthens its power.
I am taking zhangs art right now with andrographis.. no abx.. I hope that is ok... this is per my LLND who is affiliated with ILADS...
I also do not do any pulsing of this...

I found Zhang's Art to be the biggest waste of money on the planet. I started it at 4 caps 3 x's a day, and did this for a month along with a high dose of Cryptolepis and some other herbs. I had no reaction at all from Zhangs Art....zero. I wouldn't recommend it or Crypto to anyone. They are both very expensive and have little effect IMO. I know that some have said that it wiped them out, but people have said the same thing about Artemisinin.
Take a look at the ingredients on the bottle. You won't find any claims that there is any amount of actual Artesunate, Artemisinin, or Artemether in it. It's an extract of the entire plant, mostly it's astragalus and sage root with very little Art extract at all.
IMO, you are much better off taking one of the three derivatives in it's concentrated form as atesunate, artemether, or artemisinin. I've used them all in high doses with good results and zero toxicity.
I have taken pure Artesunate for 6 days in a row @ 400 mg's in a single dose at night on an empty stomach, followed by a 200 mg dose the next afternoon. I'm not saying that anyone should do this, but it was very effective, and I have done it a few times taking 5 days off in between. I did it while on a high dose Mepron protocol, as well as a high dose Primaquine one. The link below has a table showing results of different protocols using Artesunate as a monotherapy.
