My daughter has had a Groshang catheter for a year with no problems.

At the end of May she had a seizure with a new med and fell out of bed. The next day there was a tiny hole in the catheter next to the tip and the day after that she couldn't breathe and we had to call an ambulance.

She spent a week in ICU with pnueumonia and a blood infection. She had sepsis and was very sick. The line was repaired.

Four days after finishing abx for the infection we retested and she has another infection in her line (differect bacteria).

Her LLMD put her on Doxy, Ampicillin and Cipro for the infection - all IV because her stomach cannot tolerate oral meds.

After we finish she will have to have the line removed.

Has anyone been thru this before? Can we have a new line put in at the same time? Can they put it in the same place?

Her LLMD is very good, but very busy and inaccessible, which is very frustrating. Her nurse and I basically caught this second infection, luckily before it landed her back in the hospital.

We really like her doc and he has a good rep (Dr. H in CA), but I am afaid that he is too busy and will miss something important. That is scary. She was very sick earlier this month with the first infection.

Everytime we start to move forward something like this comes along and sets us back.

We're hanging in there, but very exhausted by all the drama of this month.

This is just my opinion, but any doc too busy to care for thier patients ARE NOT GOOD docs. [Smile]

Hey 4Seasons,

Sorry that I don't have answers to your questions, but I know who will. Look up wildcondor in the members profile and send her a PM.

She went through sepsis and more and came out on top of the game.....

So keep your chin up and bst wishes to your daughter.

Feelfit

I agree with seekhelp. A llmd that is completely unavailable when you are in emergency situation is completely UNACCEPTABLE.

You might try getting in touch with the surgeon who installed the first line or the nurses.

I really hope she feels better soon!!!!

Best,
mandy
