Didn't for me. Helped a bit, but as with all treatments I tried, only for a day or two and then bam... back to square one. [Smile]

It can cause some lymph drainage and detoxing.

I go to a guy who is trained in both craniosacral and lymphatic, so I'm not getting a "pure" craniosacral. However, these massages can stir up toxins. It may not be a herx per se, but an overload of toxins being released. I no longer get that, but I did used to feel bad for a couple days after a massage.

Be sure to drink lots of water the day of the massage to wash out those toxins.

I had my first CS massage 3 weeks ago and and I noticed my headache was much worse the next week. I went back and had another and that evening I felt so bad. I was in bed for 3 days. I am not sure if it was a herx or flareup.

I've herxed after just about every hard massage I've had, especially after getting the spine worked on. I think it just reflects how deeply rooted the infection is in the CNS.

What is the name of the method you are getting? Is the person trained and certified in CS? Not all who do this are so be sure to ask where they got their training and the name of the technique.

Cranial-Sacral therapy, as I get Upledger method, never has caused a herx, in fact, it puts me back together. The technique I get is really not a massage at all, as my body knows massage.

However, If you are getting lymphatic massage - or another kind of massage - together with CS, it could add to the work of your liver and kidneys - and make you feel icky if you don't drink a LOT of water for 24 hours afterward.

It is also very important not to stress the body for 24 hours after CS so that the alignment can take properly. At your next appointment, be sure to the the practitioner this and they may be able to add a technique at the end to better help you out. Please don't give up on CS as it can be tremendously helpful in many ways.

You might also look over your liver support and be sure that is in order. (Milk Thistle, NAC, etc.)

I had cranial sacral work done before I knew I had neuro lyme and it caused a multi-day migraine. But I recently had some done again and it really helped. I could feel a lot more circulation in the area of the brain near the work and a small herx with the next dose of meds.

I spoke to my brain rehab physical therapist. She said, the increased circulation caused by cranial sacral can shift cysts to active form. If you aren't on meds, that leads to increased infection and pain. If you are on treatment, that can lead to more killing and a herx. Interesting theory.

P.S. for Keebler and others with hyperacusis: My cranial work was done near the ear nerves and my hyperacusis has dropped a big step from it. Today I could stay in the house with earplugs in while my neighbor mowed. For the past year I've had to escape the neighborhood whenever anyone mowed!
