i had both done at once a year ago march. hardest thing i ever did(and i have had 4 babies...) but BEST thing i have done. i waited 10 yrs after doc said they needed to be replaced-kept going on ibuprofen (bad) and cosamineDS(good)
i had been in wheelchair 8 months-hadn't done stairs in years-was very overweight cuz couldn't do cardio
i went to rehab for 2 weeks and worked really hard
day 2-3-4 probably the worst-but again worth it. i can walk an hour a t a time now...even on pavement.
it still hurts to kneel...doc said thath is one of last things to come back.
recovery depends on your rehab...push yourself...DO IT!!!
it took me 3 years to find a really good doc. that matters too. i talked to mines ex patients etc....he was well known for good work
two very good ortho docs i kknow are sure my knee cartilage damage is from lyme

kayak, when i read this post by dorothy, i thought of you and docdave! both of you had double knee surgeries Posted by orrn (Member # 6672) on :
Sick,
I worked in the OR and that is mostly what we did. If you have any questions I would be happy to answer them as best as I could.
My mom also had both knees done, but not at the same time. I believe that she has LD, but won't get tested and refuses to seek treatment.
She says she is too "old"(at 59). You can email me if you would like. Take care!

Sick,
I met alot of knee replacement patients as a medical interpreter. Many who only had one knee replaced found that to be their better knee! Once they made it through PT (not fun) they were very happy.

my dad had both replaced but different years...
mom was dying from her colon to liver cancer so he waited since he'd had aorta valve replaced for 1st time.
he was so glad to have done both; believe he was 70 plus on 2nd knee and WENT DANCING AGAIN!!
