Do you have to wait 30 minutes to an hour before lying down after taking it or does that apply only to doxy?
I will see my LLMD for the first time Tuesday!

Take with food, and I don't lay down after any medications, just in case. This has helped me more than anything else did, even IV Rocephin. Hope your improvement is equally encouraging!

By far the most effective drug I've used for Lyme. The others have been useless for the most part.

Do you take it alone or paired with another drug? Mine has been prescribed by itself for now, but I read it's not that effective alone.

Biaxin is usually paired with Plaquenil an anti-malarial drug.

be aware it might cause depression or minor hallucinations or strange dreams. I had major depression on it twice- and I stopped the drug for a few days, the depression went away, and it didn't recur for a long time. I don't know if it's related to a herx but I'm pretty sure it's just a side effect of the med that they don't always tell people about.

I take it occasionally with Plaquenil, but not often. I'm not a fan of Plaquenil daily or at 400 mg daily. It makes me more functional as mono-therapy, but no cure/remission. My LLMD I think needs to hit it much harder using combo therapy as Dr. B suggests to get to the next step. I call it symptom-suppression drug. I'm sure I'd deterioate off it. That's not good.m But, any better days are a blessing currently so I'm not whining there. Just looking long-term as we all should be.
Also, my 1,000 mg daily is far less than WildCondor too to get cured. She had a very aggressive doc and used 2,000 mg daily. Not sure if that's important or not, but I keep in mind people's dosing here too.

I think this one is mild on my stomach compared to my doxy. It does cause my son severe insomnia. Listed as a side effect. So beware of that.

Why the "no laying down?" after taking the meds? I'm laying here, an hour after taking all of mine and I feel lousy. I'm on Biaxin and Plaquenil. Does it help to sit up?

Rebecky, the "no laying down" rule, esp with doxy and mino, and I imagine with some other meds, is that is can actually burn your esophagus. I don't know how, but have read several reports on this- can't remember the reason right now. I'm sure a google search or Pubmed would bring it up.

you should never lay down after taking DOXY. It can cause serious gastric ulcers if you do.
Jennie,
I would take your zith with food or near a meal. It can be hard on the stomach. I took it for 4 months and found that to be most helpful with stomach irritation.
ps. some LLMD's do not pair drugs but use monotherapy.
sometimes its because they dont want their patients to be extremely overwhelmed by toxin die off, or they just treat each bacteria on an individual basis.
i would go with what your doctor recommends for you and see how well you improve.

Monotherapy with Biaxin got me from 20% to 85% in 5 months ...using combo therapy since.
