I was diagnosed with Lyme in 99, and again recently. I have two kids, 2 and 3 yrs old. I was never told it could be passed in pregnancy or nursing. My kids are perfect develpmentally, but both have shortness of breath issues and dry coughing and I recently found out those could be symptoms in younger children. We've tried inhalers, allergy meds, humidifiers, etc. It seems to come and go and we, and the docs, relate it to allergies.
Also, my little one is very clumsy. She walked, crawled, talked and everything at normal rates. She just turned 2 and speaks in clear full sentences and knows her shapes, numbers, letters, etc. But very young she broke out in rashes and we had to get presription creams for her. My father has psoriasis and I have eczema, I never related it to anything but skin problems. They both don't tolerate the sun well getting very red and hot and overheated, but they're my only kids and I always thought kids shouldn't be in the hot sun too much. They drink a lot and my 3 yr old has been complaining of belly aches. And they both are OCD, but I always tended to be too, and it's nothing serious, just quirky.
It's really hard to figure it out since they are both little and I apologize for rambling. I'd be absolutely heart broken if I gave them any of my many issues. I am calling the ped tomorrow and I am getting them tested. It may be that I am absolutely paranoid, but I have to know. They're just so young and it's probable that I have had this all along. It's a wonder no one brought this to my attention sooner.

Most likely your pediatrican won't test them or won't send the test to an accurate lab.
I had a very hard time finding someone to sign the Igenex test for my kids. I came up with a list of all of their health issues since they were young. (they are 10 & 13 now)
Their symptoms were vague like your children. Only over the years they did get worse and more of them. When we did finally test my youngest was to the point of full blown Lyme symptoms. My oldest still just more vague symptoms.
There is a possibility that you passed it to them. Most doctor's won't tell you that. Your LLMD might. You can wait and see if they get more symptoms or test them. If you test them though I would use Igenex.
Best of luck! There are a lot of moms on here that passed this to their kids. You will have a lot of support!

Hi mmbl,
It's true. Lyme and coinfections can be passed from mother to baby throught pregnancy. Lyme can also be passed from breastfeeding.
My son who is 2 1/2 years now got lyme and multiple coinfections from me.
I agree with Amy C that you should have them tested through IgenX.
Here's the good news...if they do have lyme, they can be cured. Kids can be cured of all this.
Good luck.

Mmbl, your kids symptoms sound so similar to mine - the tummyaches, rashes, ocd.
The good thing is you are aware and the kids can be cured. Mine are a bit older than yours and we just started treatmnt this year and are showing a clearing of symptoms.

Agree with all above.
My daughter had very vague symptoms, if you can call it that. My wife has had Lyme since before she was pregnant with her.
She complains about leg pain from time to time. After two months on antibiotic, she nopw stops complaining, or almost stops. She used to complain once every other day and sometimes every night before treatment. Now she complains once in the past month.
And she is too young to know about the treatment. She thought she is getting a caddy shot every morning for liquid form of zith. And we don't make any connection b/w the med and the leg pain for her.
So we are crossing our fingers...

I'm very suspicious that I have passed it on to my kids as well. Dr wants them tested, as do I, but I can't afford it yet. Very frustrating!
All of them had intense tummy issues as babies. Had to put them on elemental formula because of protein intolerance. My oldest has many of my specific symptoms, which disturbs me greatly. My twins have pronounced ADHD.
