Just wondering if anyone else has high serotonin levels? I did a search on here and only found low. I don't take any meds that I think would cause this.
The normal on the test I took is between 100 and 225 and mine is 305.
I thought I read online it can cause anxiety, insomnia, and low metabolism to name a few. I do have all of those.
Just thought it was worth a discussion. Any else?

Has anyone mentioned seritonin syndrome (too much seritonin)- a very dangerous condition??
My doc thought I might have seritonin syndrome and tested me. Come to find out I'm at 33 on the scale. 33? No wonder I'm a little, uh, depressed.
What's with the Lyme and low seritonin levels, folks??

I wasn't aware there was an accurate test of serotonin, cetainly not accurate of the levels in your brain
I am actually weaning off a ssri, I am curious to see if I ever had a serotonin issue.

Serotonin levels in the blood stream do NOT correlate with levels in the brain.
It's a useless test...
and.... Even though labs will give a reference range, there is no true known levels that are "Normal"
The only way to get a real number would be to get a Cerebral Spinal Fluid sample, but again, the number wouldn't mean anything.
I have gathered this information from tons of research I have done in this area.

Well as a 10 year Paxil user I offer you one Caveat, SSRIs do not work forever, for me they worked great at first, then it stoppped working and its hell to get off off after long term use. I have been tapering off paxil for 20 months. Other people can start and stop taking them like candy, but for me the things are hell to get off of.
If you ever saw the movie Charlie or read flowers for algernon, thats what SSRIs are all about.
Go to paxilprogress.org and read tons of bad things about ssris and withdrawal. Messing with Serotonin is tricky business, specially if the bugs got to your brain.

I had seretonin syndrome once when I was in a severe cluster headache episode. I regularly take Cymbalta but was also taking a lot of Relpax for the headaches. They reacted together to cause very high seretonin.
I was manic and LOVED it. Being that I'm so fatigued most of my life, a little mania was more than welcome.
I didn't learn till later that it was a potentially serious situation. I know I crashed super hard when I stopped taking the Relpax.

High serotonin levels in serum indicate a tumor marker. Don't fall for the connection between blood serotonin levels and brain levels. I got conned into that crap by a holistic doc before. I was assured by many it's not able to be tested for.

Alot of doctors kept telling me that I had low serotonin levels... turns out mine were actually high, I sometimes think all this neurotransmitter stuff is valid but might be barking up the wrong tree.
