I have had a picc line since April ... well actually 4 picc lines. I have had problems with them floating out and lots of problems with being allergic to the covering. I have pretty much used up all of the dressing that my company has including tagaderm and primapore. I am sure that there are other dressings that are more for sensitive skin, I am just not sure where to find them. Anyone have any ideas?

About your lines coming out on their own... mine ( 3 of them) were all stitched into my upper arm- only two stitches, one on both sides- via a fitting that went over the PICC at insertion site. I never had a problem with them coming out. You might want to inquire about this technique. I just thought it was commonplace, but maybe not...

Yeah we've gotten down the stitches now ... only took them four times. But now it is the rash. Thanks for the advice thought!!

Hmmm... Just a thought here-
I got a rash from the clorohexiderm (phonetic spelling only on that one ), the antiseptic used when changing dressings. Little red bumps under and around the dressing- it itched like crazy!
I had to switch to alcohol only. Not as good apparently, but that rash was driving me nuts.

I thought it was the dressing, but found that it was the Chloraprep. I ended up using Betadine & had no further problems.
My skin actually blistered up & sloughed to shed the dressing, that was why I thought the problem was the dressing.
Note: No Betadine if you have shellfish allergies.

Here is what you need to do because it works for people with sensitive skin. Have your nurse or whomever use a sensitve skin bandage, and a picc line statlock ( to keep picc from moving anywhere). But for the rash here is the trick. After the ChloraPrep is applied use a bottle of nasonex and spray lightly on skin around the bandage area. Allow to dry then apply bandages. You will no longer have a rash. Do this weekly at every dressing change. No more rash.
