I have been treated for LD now for 9 months. In May I was on Rifampin as well to treat Bartonella for 1 month. Since May I have been having problems with severe nausea about once a week. Has anyone had this problem and could the ABX have messed with the flora in my stomach. I also have a history of acid reflux. What suggestions do you have to help this?
Also I am starting Cat's Claw tomorrow. Is this beneficial? Does it cause liver problems? Are there any side effects. The LLMD said I might Herx!!!!!!!
Thanks, Reggie

Yes abx could have messed up (most likely it did) the flora in your gi tract. Up your acidophillus intake, and perhaps think about anti-yeast diet and RX such as Diflucan. Also increase your Milk Thistle intake. (And if you're not taking, you should, as Rifampin is really hard on the liver). Let your LLMD know about the nausea and ask for suggestions.
I herxed with 30 minutes off 1/2 capsule of Cat's Claw (Prima Una de Gato). Cat's Claw has many benefits besides helping keep lyme at bay.

Hi Reggie,
I also get nausea. I think that it is due to taking antibiotics on an empty stomach. Have you tried eating something before/after you take your abx? (I'm also on Rifampin)
Are you taking probiotics? You should be while on abx. It helps a lot.
Cat's Claw worked well for me. I took it for several years and I think that it worked even better than the perscription medications did. I've also had good results with Resveratrol.

i am in remission and taking a prophylactic dose of TOA cats claw by Allergy Research and having good luck with it.
definitely get a good high culture/ high strain refrigerated probiotic such as Megaflora by Megafoods, Renew Life Ultimate Flora Critical Care, and NSI 15-35.
replenish often and do take at bedtime and 2-3 hours away from all abx and supplements.
it could be related intestinal flora balance has been upset by all the abx.
many folks also take nexium or prilosec while on harsh antibiotics.
do check in with your doctor.

Cat's Claw research, suggestive that TOA Free Cat's Claw may not be best. Research showing that TOA is better was very little research, and was paid for by Marketers of TOA Free products. 20 years of independent research conflicts 2 Market drive TOA studies.
