Since starting treatment a few months ago, my nails have grown in differently. They are flat - almost concave at the ends.
My hair is also very dry, despite using powerful conditioners.
Any idea what might cause this?
Hope you're all well! Posted by Tincup (Member # 5829) on :
I can't say what is causing it.. but can suggest checking into thyroid and adrenal issues.

Taking 5mg of Biotin twice a day helps my hair and nails a lot, but my problems don't sound like yours, so it probably isn't relevant. Biotin is a B vitamin destroyed by antibiotics.

This happened to me. Found it was a form of candida from taking the antibiotics. Try to soak your fingernails regularly in a solution of equal parts, hydrogen peroxide and apple cider vinegar.
but also you need to kill the candida. This is a symtemic problem. You need an anti candida diet for a long time.
check out the candida/yeast threads for supplement or treatment options. It will get better with proper protocols. without it, you will get worse. The side effects are not just your hair and fingernails...the but symptoms that also appear to be only lyme. Brain hypo profusion, brain fog, weight gain, etc.
Hair and nails are the best indicator that something is not right with our health...you can actually see the new growth and test it.

I agree it is most likely hypothyroid, since the symptoms you mention are classic for that.
Please get these labs: a TSH, a free T3, free T4, and thyroid antibody test. Do NOT settle for just a TSH.
