My first post! Sooo glad you all are here.

My son seems to be allergic to both the iodine and the chloraprep used to to clean his picc dressing. He tries not to itch it but he does so unconsciously and the entire area is red and covered in bumps. I'm not too concerned about infection, but maybe I should be. His new infusion nurse at the doctor's office saw it yesterday and assumed we were using chloraprep and recommended we switch to iodine. I don't know why I had forgotten that we had already switched from chloraprep to iodine a few weeks before that. I'm thinking he's allergic to both of them or to the actual dressing adhesive. Has anyone experienced this? Any suggestions? My son was so itchy today that he almost scratched the entire dressing off - exposing the picc line. We had to change it immediately. I gave him a benedryl to help him not itch while he's sleeping but I'm concerned it will wear off in 4 hours and he'll scratch during the last half of his sleep. I'm thinking I might need to get up in the middle of the night to give him another one!

Welcome Aleigh!

I'm so sorry your precious one is having to deal with this problem. Yes, he could very well be reacting to the dressing covering too. I've seen others write about this many times, but unfortunately, I don't have an alternate suggestion for you.

I'm sure that others will come along soon with the help you need though.

My best,
Melanie
