Hello, eveybody. I'm new to the forum and posted a little background of my history with Lyme Disease the other day and was overwhelmed with all the responses I received. I would like to thank everyone who took the time to help me out with finding a local LLMD.

I have since made an appointment for this coming Tuesday to see a physician for the first time after being diagnosed with LD over 12 years ago. Up until about a month ago I wasn't aware that LD can be treated. In my previous post I explained how after I was originally diagnosed over 12 years ago my physician explained to me that there was nothing he could do prescribe to help me. I'm glad that modern medicine has made some giant leaps in curing this disease.

I'm just curious as to what I can expect after my appt. next Tuesday? What kind of tests or meds my new physician may run or prescribe? I know it depends on the severity, but just some general info will be very appreciated.

Thanks again!!!!!

hey,

Welcome to LN!

Now...is this Doc an LLMD?? If not...chances are they will not believe it is Lyme or will treat you for 4 weeks and pronounce you CURED.

If it's LLMD, you will be in good hands...do a search and you'll find a list of thing about what to bring/do before your appointment..I gotta go somewhere right now...sure others will be along!

Take care,
Ocean

s,

you will probably go through your history with him/her first so they can get a work up on all your symptoms.

as far as tests go, all LLMD are a little different but they should surely test you for lyme at a lab called IGENEX (an elisa and western blot).

they should also test for coinfections which are bacteria that travels with the lyme organisms.

getting well is a long term process, and usually you will continue treating until 3 months past your last symptom.

im not sure about the drugs since you have chronic lyme. some docs ramp up slowly, some use monotherapy, some us multiple treatment therapies.

here is a copy of the top lyme docs guidelines for your use and information. not all docs follow this to a 't' but it is just a guideline.

you might want to write down some notes and questions so that you dont forget something.

good luck at your visit and keep us posted!
