Hello, everyone. I've been living with LD for

over 12 years now and have been suffering from

moderate anxiety for the last six years and severe

anxiety for the last five months. I was just

wondering what anxiety meds Lymies have had

success with? I also just started a three month

regimen of Doxy yesterday if that matters.

Thanks!!

Hey! Glad to have you here!,

I have VERY bad anxiety and found out over the years that Klonopin and Valium works best for me.

I have tried Xanax and all the " ant-depressants" and found that they didn't help at all, some even made my anxiety worse.

A lot of people will tell you to stray from the Benzo's( Xanax, Klonopin) because they CAN become addictive, but I find in my case they are the only thing that helps.

Hope that helps!

Yeah Lexapro put me in the hospital.....

Anything that has to do with the Seretonin levels in the brain gives me a bad reaction...

It all depends on the person, I guess..

Thanks for the responses. I did experiment

with St. John's Wart for about seven weeks, didn't

like the effects. I was angry ALL the time and

experienced a MINIMAL drop in my anxiety. I

should add that my anxiety is only really

heightened when I'm at work or in a social

situation.

I have also had Lyme-related anxiety problems for many years but it is very well controlled now.

I rarely need to take my tranquilizer at all anymore.

I currently take Wellbutrin but my doctor said that it can make anxiety worse in some people.

Fortunately, it's working well in my case.

I used to take Lexapro and that worked just fine for the anxiety but SSRIs make me gain a lot of weight (which doesn't happen to everybody so I recommend you try it) and I wanted to try something different.

I currently take Clonazepam as needed (which is not very often anymore, fortunately) but Lorazepam worked just as well for me.

I'm sorry anti-depressants caused problems for other people because they have been a life-saver for me.

So personally, I would highly recommend an SSRI.

Anxiety is the worst feeling in the world and I couldn't live with it and I'm glad I don't have to anymore.

Good luck, sgruebs and hang in there! I know how much it sucks but it'll get better.

Before I knew I had Lyme I was hit with severe anxiety and panic attacks.

I started taking Lexapro AND seeing a psychologist.

I think it's the combination that helped me.

But Lexapro can make you gain weight, but it is different for everyone.

Hope everyone will look into and get tested for pyroluria KPU. I don't want to see anyone suffer for yrs like I did with anxiety and many other Pyroluria symptoms. I was addicted to valium yrs ago and it was hell going through withdrawels. Get to the root of the anxiety not just cover it up. Do a search here for KPU PYroluria, kryptopyroluria http://drrandy.org/article.html My Md article
