I recently had another western blot test (quest - so they only reported the CDC bands) that showed IGG band 58 was "reactive". Everything else was negative.

Is it possible that this is indicative of something other than Bb?

Thanks!

Also should mention that IgM was all negative too

I just read Dr. C's revised bands that he says are significant (antibodies) in 2005. He included band 58 at this time.

However, band 58 is listed as one that can be cross-sensitive with other bacterial protein. Many docs want this removed from the CDC IgG criteria list.

Any help or thoughts would be appreciated here. Too bad your tongue doesn't turn black or something easy to identify like that.

Ha, good point with the last statement. Too bad indeed.

Yes, unfortunately from what I understand, 58 cannot point to Lyme only.

However, sometimes bands will not show up in testing for whatever reason (bad tests, Lyme not prevoked enough before testing, immune system not recognizing it), so because of that, physicians will sometimes treat clinically, on suspicion of Lyme.

A better lab like Igenex or Stony Brook might catch more bands for you. Or, sometimes more bands will come back positive after taking antibiotics, or later in treatment.

However, what you have in the bloodwork you've done so far is not enough to come to any definitive conclusions, on its own. [Frown]

I would take Quest with a grain of salt.

I would do a challenge and retest with Igenex.

My first quest was one band migrating in IgG region unable to identify in 07. Sick for over 2

years and could have found it a lot sooner if I had known.

What is meant by a challenge?

You take a short course of antibiotics wait 10 days

and draw and ship to Igenex. It has been found that

way in patients who are immuno compromised by

killing some of it where by the immune system

produces antibodies to the dead/dying Borrelia

where before it did not see them. No antibodies

means no detection. I think this explains it.
