Hey krazzzzzzzz...

You'd have to first believe that there are all these autoimmune diseases out there suddenly popping up... with the definition as something that is causing our own bodies to attack us, for no reason.

I don't believe that one bit.

I believe each "auto-immune disease" has a cause ... and we (or some folks) just haven't figured it out yet.

BUT.. there sure is a lot more money for research in the auto-immune market for those wanting to describe and study these new diseases.

Ho Ho Hopkins, for example, is getting ready to suck dry the till.. or will continue to suck it dry... while "exploring" them.

What you've described, I would say (my opinion) are symptoms or conditions that develop as a direct result of Lyme and coinfections that have been sorted out and given new names.

These "symptoms" or "conditions", when removed from the overall picture, don't have a "supposed" cause or cure.

Can I prove any of this... not really. But I see many people who are diagnosed with one or more autoimmune diseases who developed them after having known Lyme disease with remaining symptoms after treatment.

If you want to know who has those conditions... I do have some you listed.. and some you didn't list.

PS.. I am NOT a doctor and this is my opinion only.

I did not test positive for Co-infections but I do have the following:

EBV- I have had 3 flare ups this year that showed an active case of mono

Endometriosis
H. Pylori
Vit D deficiency

And who knows what else they will find. I swear I have thyroid problems but I keep testing normal on that. Isn't that kind of like Lyme...hard to get a positive test for? Anyone know what I can do beyond the ordinary tests to know if I have thyroid issues.

I just tested positive for an autoimmune disease...4 years after coming down with lyme symptoms.

My question has always been why after years with the same symptom set why did I just test positive now for the autoimmune disease.

Did you have the autoimmune before the lyme?

Tincup, true on what you said, however on somethings blood work does not lie. + ANA, +TPO or antibodies against the thyroid, +intrinsic factor=pernicious anemia (b12 defiency), + skin biosphy for Vitiligo (deterioration of skin pigmentation). As they say once you get one autoimmune illness, its not uncommon for another one to follow. In normal fashion, Addison's would be darn near next, however i have been tested for that and that was negative, although my adrenals do slack alot they arent being attacked by my own body, yet anyways, im starting to get more and more symptoms, its hard to seperate these other illness's from Lyme, any help would be appreciated, yes I had all these, but pernicious anemia before Lyme, this tells me I had Lyme disease for a very, long time undiagnosed. cantgiveupyet, what autoimmune illness did you test + for, or was it +ANA??? thanks

tincup i read you wrong, i believe what you believe, but i do not consider IBS, Fibroymagia, or Chronic Fatigue Syndrome to be autoimmune illness. Like UC or Crohn's there are way's to confirm an actual diagnosis. Muscle Pain or fibro is real, but caused by an illness, CFS is real, but caused by an illness. IBS, CFS, Fibro are throw offs from another disease, or a M.D. kinda just saying I dont know whats wrong with you, but you fit in this group. I find CFS interesting however, because alot of these people that actually see a dr that confirms a real CFS syndrome or a dr that deals with CFS alot of them have the same symptoms. IBS is a very poor excuse imo, Fibro is to broad and to unknown should always be a secondary diagnosis, like u said whats the cause? people just dont wake up having muscle pain and what not for no reason.

I did see a lit of fibro symptoms on a website that was for fibro the list was obviously mad by a group of people with fibro. The list was so crazy if you had all the symptoms of fibro you could have anything from diabetes type I to ALS or possibly Huntingtons to Lyme disease.

hey brian,

I have a postive ANA, speckled patter and test positive for one of the Sjogren's antibodies.

In the beg of illness i did have the dry mouth, numb tongue feeling, but dont have many of the symptoms of Sjogrens.

I have interstitial cystitis...which some say can be autoimmune, and is sometimes found along with sjogrens.... just another cluster of symptoms with no known cause or cure.

Brian,

It is all connected. You might want to check out this website. It has 50 years bonifide research and successful treatment for infectious causes to auto-immune disorders.

www.roadback.org

And yes, I have rheumatoid arthritis as a result of my lyme disease. Great news though. Treatment has me symptom free and living a full life.

AND my allergies and asthma that was severe in 1995 are now gone. Yup. Clear. Thank you to lyme treatment. When I say "lyme treatment" I am speaking of treating so much more than just lyme.

The tick imparts more than just the spirochete. These microbes damage many aspects of our body including our immune system, indocrine system, hormonal system, musculo-skeletal system in their effort to survive.

The first thing my LLMD said to me when we first met was "when you are this sick, it is never just one thing". She was right.
