I am doing two grams a day of generic Rocephin. Most of my med is by one manufacturer and I have a few bottles from another manufacturer.
I have noticed a HUGE difference between the two. After using the second kind, the next day I am so sore and achy I can hardly move plus I was running a fever (I NEVER get a fever - I'm lucky if my temp breaks 98), but for the first day in a long time I could breathe and didn't have chest pain. With the other manufacturer I didn't notice any difference in symptoms or reactions.
I know that all generics are supposed to be essentially the same but are just a little different so they can be patented or some such for each generic drug co.
Has anyone else had such a huge difference between two manufacturers of the same med? If so, would you push and insist with your LLMD to get the brand that seems to be causing a herx?
I only have one more bottle of the stuff that I think is helping and need some advice. Thanks guys.

BTW- Motown's the name.... and you are in WV? Kind of a strange combo... eh?
I have noted BIG differences in some meds- name brand and generic.
For example... right now, with me, it is ibuprofen and eye drops.
They all say they are the same... pharmacists, etc.. but not for me. I notice a big difference.
Even in the melatonin brands too.
So my thought is yes, it is possible.
I am not sure your "icky" is caused by a herx... but whatever... it should be mentioned to your doctor.
Wish I had more specific answers for you... but I am allergic to the big R... so can't help you there.

My doctor gave me a list of generic rocephin NOT to get. I don't have it anymore because I stupidly gave it to the pharmacy.

This is very interesting. I had no idea there was a difference. I started on rocephin last Fri, it gets sent to me by the surgical co., so wasn't told that or given a choice. Now you really have me wondering.

From what I read different brands can have different purity. And that it actually some residual precursors byproducts is what make the difference and most side effects

Tincup - Motown is short for Morgantown. If you live here you eventually shorten it to Motown. I chose the name because no one believes we have lyme here.
I get my meds from my LLMD and infuse myself. I have noticed differences in other oral generics but nothing this extreme.

I was thinking Motown.. like the Detroit record company and that beautiful soul dancing music.
I still think I would mention this to your LLMD. Not about the soul music.. but about the differences you are seeing in the Rocephin.
The LLMD's need our feedback to be able to help folks.
As for Motown... I have family there.. so you'd think I would have figured it out. Duh me!
Let us know what you figure out about the Rocephin.. ok?

My friend is on rocephin, She has had recent similar experience with fevers, chest pains, etc.
But it's possible that the rocephin has gone bad.
What she has discovered is that much of the rocephin she got may have been improperly stored. The color has varied widely. From a very clear amber to an opaque red.
She only found out recently that the darker color meant the rocephin had gone bad. She probably infused at least a month's worth. WTF! (I don't know if bad means just ineffective, or toxic).
So it is hard for her to know if the symptoms were from good or bad rocephin (though the clear amber seems to be causing the fevers).
The freaking pharmacy merely put a "perishable" label on the shipping box. The receiving agent did not know to, nor did they have the capability, to refrigerate. What kind of way is that to treat medical supplies?
Anyway, storage may have as much to do with the rocephin, as the generic manufacturer.

James...Yes it does. I was informed to check everything b/f infusing, even the saline and heparin. Whomever ships this needs to insure it comes cold, very important!

My meds are dry and I have to mix them right before I infuse. They look clear to pale yellow and I'm definitely spiking fevers the day after I infuse the rocephin - 102 yesterday for most of day.
JamesNYS - That is just frightening about the shipping incorrectly. I should be shocked but I'm not. The more I see as I progress through this, this less I'm suprised about the level of idiocy of some so called professional medical companies.

Your rocephin is in a powder form? Wow, I didn't know there was such a thing. Are you only mixing rocep? How long does it take?
Do you have any idea if this is cheaper than the liquid?
It would seem to be much safer to mix it oneself rather than have to make sure it's always refrigerated.

I may be starting it soon and my pharmacy is really good about working with me. I think they would go with a recommended company as long as it would still be considered generic.

The dry stuff I've been using is by Novaplus. The dry medicine is in a glass bottle. You pop the top off and fit it onto a spike that attaches to a bag of liquid (basically saline I think).
You break a tube that connects the liquid to the glass vial. This allows the liquid to mix into the glass vial. You then squeeze the mixture into the clear liquid and infuse.
I've used two brands.Novaplus and Hospira. The Hospira is the kind that seems to really be hitting something for me.
