Was wonderful what methods people use as Birth Control.
Is it safe to go on the pill with LD? I am almost if not in remission and me and my bf are slowy becoming more active again. I don't want to get pregant at this point and Condoms are an issue for him because of allergies.
I was thinking of spermicides anyone use these? Which do you recommend? is this safe with LD? I don't want to cause more damage to my fragile body

Geet I have an IUD. There are controversies, but mine has no hormones. I figured my body has had enough problems with all the imbalances lD has caused.

Would not recommend messing with your hormones and birth control pills in general mess so much with your system. How can anyone think that keeping the body in a false state of pregnancy can be good. Bad news, I think.
Above advice is good and there are also condoms made out of different materials for allergy issues, silicone if latex is a problem and natural lambskin if trust and STD's are not an issue. However, condoms are mainly good for protection from STD's, they are not the best for of birth control.

I don't have to worry about this but if I did based on the already hormone imbalances I would have to go with IUD also.

Before I knew I had Lyme, I was on the pill.
I got a yeast infection almost every single month.
Never had it before I went on b.c.

I am on a projesteron only b/c pill its wonderful affective because no estrogen no issue with anit biotics

Thank you all for your replies I am going to speak with my OBGYN on saturday but now at least I have some things to bring up with her. Its hard because she definitely isnt Lyme Literate.

Search some older threads about the pill. I recall many knowledgeable ones saying to stay away from the pill...especially the newer versions.
But I don't remember the reasoning, but it sounded very compelling when I read it.

I have had a Mirena IUD almost two years and really love it. I feel like it's the one area of my health that is easy- no side effects, nothing to remember. It was absolutely the right choice.
That said, my LLMD asked me to have it removed. He said it creates a structural blockage that can prevent healing from LD. But I'm not getting it removed. I'll try everything else first because it is so wonderful.

NO to birth controls for me! I think a lot of my lyme symptoms fluctuate when my hormones are changing. For example I got first sick 8 weeks after having my second child.
Then 18 months later had a relapse a week after starting the pill. I'm still super sick and it's been 6 months.
I've been tested for thyroid and etc... always normal. SOmething with lyme disease and hormonal shifts are NOT good.

Be aware that using spermicide too often can cause dryness (they say on the package not to use it more than once in 24 hours I believe it was).....and I always worry about dryness leading to chaffed skin, which could make blood be in the general area. Then I would worry about sexual transmission, if blood (even a tiny bit) was present.
That's just my decision. I don't know if it's based on any facts, but I'm too worried about myself or my partner getting dried out from the spermicidal ingredient, and that causing problems with the LD.
So I choose condoms. However, if you know you aren't apt to stick with that, and you really do want to go with spermicide, you could get trained in some of the newer "sympto-thermo" methods where you look at your mucus and track temps, and combine that method with the spermicide.

I have heard of LLMD's prescribing birth control to level out hormonal fluctuations and therby reduce Monthly Lyme flares.
I do not take birth control pills but have considered it for to help ease the flare.
Generally I do not tlike to take any pills that are not totally necessary so I have hesitated to use birth control. While it is tempting, there are side effects and other considerations.
Has anyone reading this taken BC to control symptoms?

have seen my obgyn for 15 years. And I would trust

I am on Seasonale. It's one of the long-term pills where you only have a period every 3 months.
I started it because on the monthly pill, my periods were out of control (pain and horrid PMS), and I was losing 2 out of 4 weeks to it. Now I don't get so much PMS, but the periods are still really yucky.
My concern is that I'm 47 and I think at some point I'm going to have to stop taking it, but I can't handle the periods without it. I'm going to see a gynecologist to see what my options are.
I don't need to lose 2 weeks of every 4 to my period, on top of trying to fight Lyme, so there has to be some way to do this.
No boyfriend, so the only reason I take the pill is to control the periods.
