Anyone's child been on plaquenil? How did they tolerate it? How long were they on it?

Adults: how have you tolerated it?

Did it help the Lyme? Did it target any co-infections? Bart and/or Babs? In other words, what does it target?

Any precautions with giving it at the same time as the other meds--Mino, Zith, Rifampin, i.e., lessens effectiveness, etc.?

Any cautions with regard to supplements?

LLMD reassured me that the Black Box Warning regarding the peripheral vision is not something to worry about at this low dose, but of course, I'm worried! Any way to protect the eyes while on this drug?

Went to the LLMD today thinking that he would surely discontinue at least one of her meds, but instead, he added yet another one! This will be #4.

My head is spinning. When will this end?

I'm not giving up hope--never do--but I am feeling very down at the moment. I will pick myself up as I always do since my child needs me, but this illness is just one long drawn out nightmare--I want to wake up already.

With the new day, brings new hope!

Thanks as usual for all your support and help.

This board keeps me focused and sane!

Its recommended to have a vision field test before starting plaquenil, and every 6 months.

I'm currently on plaquenil, have been for 2 months. I also took it a few months ago.

At the low doses we get prescribed 200-400 mg's daily, eye problems are very rarely seen. My eye doctor mentioned seeing 3 in his entire career and this was with higher doses of plaquenil.

I would still recommend you have your eyes looked at at some time during treatment with plaquenil.

It should as it is designed to increase the effectiveness of Zithromax. Plaquenil is usually added with a macrolide such as Zith, Biaxin to make it more effective, and it does.

I am taking plaquenil with biaxin, very common combination and highly regarded.

Symptom wise, I tolerate plaquenil fairly well it can cause some herxing at the start, for me it's mainly increased fatigue just take it as you can tolerate it.

Thank you Trevor1 for your reply.

Do you know if it is prescribed to target just the Lyme or does it also go after some of the co-infections, specifically Babs and/or Bart?

Thank you too for mentioning that the low doses rarely give eye problems. Knowing that helps put my mind at ease somewhat with having to give it to my child. I will definitely schedule a vision field exam for her before we start giving it to her.

I wish you continued relief in your symptoms.
