I had my picc line placed in on Monday and when I

turn my arm a certain way, I feel it pull

underneath my arm pit. Is this normal? Im

restricting my movement becasue i'm afraid of

damaging something. Is this a normal concern?

Bheiser,

Sorry to hear about your concern, but with my own experience with PICC lines I know where you are coming from.

When I had my 2 PICC lines put in, I felt the catheter and a little discomfort for about a week or two.

I would think that it is normal to feel it because it is a "foreign" object that is inserted into our bodies.

For instance I have a port in my chest and I can feel the catheter in my juggular if I move a certain way.

If it lasts for a while, I would contact your doctor.

Best Wishes!

yeah it just feels tight under my armpit when

raising my arm. I'm just very scared and I don't

want anything to happen.

I know what you're talking about. I frequently had a tight, pulling feeling in my armpit area when I had my PICC.

Sometimes I noticed it while resting. Most of the time I noticed it when I used my arm too much or if I had to hold it in a different position for a while.

I also had spasms in my arm for about a month after the insertion. I was told that this was because my veins were so small.

If you are concerned you can always call and run it by your doctor. Anything to make you feel more comfortable.

Sometimes you can get inflammation in the vein. Did you try putting some warmth on it?

My infusion nurse told me to fill a tube sock with rice, microwave for a minute at a time until warm and put that on my shoulder.

You can try that & see if it gives you any relief.
