The first one to see an offensive thread should report it & post in the thread.

It is then stated that the thread has been reported. If anyone else wants to they can report it also, but they needn't post.

Each time a post hits the thread it bumps it to the top and we have to have it in our faces that much longer if it doesn't get deleted quickly enough.

When the post is reported, a link is sent to the moderators so they can find it no matter what page it drops to.

The moderators here are volunteers and some of them have other obligations besides this. I'm grateful that they try as hard as they do.

If you look up & see that LouB is not listed, or worse yet - there is NO moderator listed, I think that's become an indicator that we may need to have a little more patience than we usually need.

If you want to complain about it in a thread, please start a new one and discuss it there.

If you want, you can even complain here. [Smile]

Thank you very much for your consideration.

[group hug]
Ali

PS - I think that the people who would post such filth on internet sites that CHILDREN might frequent should be strung up by their own genitalia, stoned & then shot or at the very least arrested.

WHAT'S WRONG WITH THESE PEOPLE?!!!!! [Mad]

6 the other one is on page two.

I worked very hard yesterday answering every question I could from the back pages to advance this darned trash to the later pages.

I find it really frustrating to watch people just continuing to post, but I guess that's just my problem & my issue & I'll just have to get over it.

This too shall pass....... [Roll Eyes]

I'm in too much pain & just too tired to do it again.

Well that is why we need more moderators. And I dont agree with wild condor that they should be inactive.

It should be somebody who is stable enough not to abuse the moderators powers, but someone who posts often - otherwise we will run into situation like this when we have offensive pictures hanging for days.

I was wondering where the Mod links were this morning? This is the first time I have not seen ANY links up top?

Posted by WildCondor (Member # 434) on :

Another reason is, that someone without Lyme should probably do it so they are thinking clearly. If they are emotionally involved in a post, a bias is created. Fairness is important here.

Posted by Abxnomore (Member # 18936) on :

I've never seen a moderator not posted on the top.

I think every one should chill a bit. They are volunteers who provide a great site and service.

Does Lou B have lyme?? If so, I was not aware of that.

I think in general they do a fine job policing internet spam. I have not seen any evidence of any moderators not thinking clearly. What's the big deal anyway?

This post happens to be very offensive but in general if someone is the type to be so offended by porn they shouldn't open the post. It will be removed at some point, so I'm not sure what all the fuss is about.

Wild your idea sounds so great!

I can't help but wonder though where they might find someone without Lyme who would be willing to donate their time to moderating this site.

It would also have to be someone who understands the psychological impact and psychiatric manifestations of Lyme.

We have a hard time finding DOCTORS that do that, let alone someone who would give up their time purely out of the kindness of their heart.

I've seen it before Mel, ever since Jen was thoroughly abused here when she was working a full-time job and filling in for Lou in his absence.

People were very demanding and unkind to her and not at all appreciative of the fact that she was sacrificing her limited time with her own family to try to help us out here.

People were actually posting abusive threads on the board. It was shameful.

I don't know if they're both away or if she hasn't gotten to the board yet or what. [confused]

ABX-
I agree people COULD just refrain from opening posts that they know contain porn. Unfortunately some people (like me) who have children, may have their computers in a location where a child could be easily monitored.

When my daughter comes over to ask me a question, which she does VERY frequently, she always glances at the screen to see what I'm looking at. (She's very curious (actually I can say nosey because she's sleeping now [lol] ))

I really don't want her to read those things and wonder whether her mother is a "pervert" reading about such things and I really don't want to have to explain the meanings of them, why they're on here, whether this is what I read when I'm on the computer so much........

I don't want to walk away from the computer because I'm on a phone call & have her sit down & curiously click on one of those links.

I'm sure I'm not the only one who had to be conscious of such possibilities with my children.

If it's there when she's at school & off the page by the time she gets home, it's not such a problem. I doubt she'd start going through the pages if I left the window open.

That's why I'd been trying to so hard to get it off the front page. I had a thread going that I was trying to keep up with replies on & I was trying to help others with their problems.

I didn't want to have to shut it down & walk away to protect my young child. They're growing up MUCH faster now than 30+ years ago and I think it's already faster than it should be.

I think a big reason is because many children are completely unsupervised on the internet & with what they may be watching on TV. Alot of this stuff wasn't around when I was a child.

The TV was around but there weren't a whole lot of things on that weren't somehow educational, other than a few cartoons, which were only on during reasonable hours for children to be watching.

So that's what MY problem is with it. I can't speak for everyone who finds these things offensive though. [Smile]

You are right I never thought about children looking at the site. Silly me, I'm not in that boat!

Well, I agree with you that it would be very hard to find someone without lyme to give time to moderating.

I think tonight is exceptionally unusual that there are not any moderators on duty.

It is exceptionally unusual. And just to be perfectly clear... I am not complaining, I am concerned about Lou and Jenifer.

melanie, yes very unusualfor no names to show in upper left hand corner.

to whoever 1st reported the porno photos, did you use the REPORT TO MODERATOR click in lower right hand corner??

lou b told me awhile back it goes to the entire IT team:

loub, jenifer, tom, bill stolow, and 2 others !!

then whoever reads this, acts on this for this type of thing and SPAM!!

we are not to use it for any other reason!!
*******************************************

lou b posded his recent health problems in SUPPORT, so please go there to read this.

i'm w/melanie; i'm concerned about both of their health, etc.

loub does NOT have lyme; his daughter, lori, has had lyme, and continues to do battles with it but much improved.

i was like ali; i posted here & there to get the 2 posts OFF page 1 !! they always come on late at night when i'm on here. i report them promptly.

lou's been really good in the past to come on here and check on the moderator alert reports like this, and delete them/bans posters before going to bed.

I realized that Mel [group hug]
I hope I didn't sound like I thought you were. I was just saying that I had seen it before.

It has me a little worried too. I always worry when I notice anyone's missing, INCLUDING our moderators.

It used to freak me out when I would look up and only see "Toby" up there too. [Roll Eyes]
I get nervous & start praying for them when I see they're not around.

I do that whenever I notice I haven't seen a Lymenet "family member" post for a while. I sometimes think it's a little odd how I get so concerned over people that I've never actually met.

I even sometimes wonder if the pet troll is OK when s/he's quiet, the poor disturbed soul. I know there's really something wrong with me that I feel sorry for someone who's main objective is to make all of our lives more miserable, but I really think that person must have some very messed up, unresolved issues in their own life.

They actually really can't have much of a life for all the time they spend on here. I think that's really sad.

Don't get me wrong, I don't miss the troll's activity, I just wonder if someone hasn't killed or severely harmed him/her.

I'm much too tired right now, I'm going off on weird tangents [bonk] I really think I need to get some rest.

[sleepy]

Betty, now I'm really concerned. [Frown]

I DID use the "report post" for all of them. I wonder what's up that NONE of those people are responding.

I hope everyone's OK. Darn it now I'm REALLY worried about Lou again! [Frown]

ali,

i just checked; my last email to a REPORT THIS was 9-14-09; about 2 am!! no more since...

he was going to take time off until 9-20. if you send a regular email or pm to him; it states that.

didn't realize toby's name FINALLY taken off since her pm box was full all the time!

time will tell what's happening....

i've been posting answering like crazy so CRAP goes to pages 2/3 !!

PLEASE KEEP THIS UP TO THE TOP!!

we've worked hard to get the nasty stuff off page 1 ....thanks everyone hugs

bettyg-
Are you a moderator or would you be interested in being one? You are frequent on this site.

Posted by Abxnomore (Member # 18936) on :

I know Lou does not have Lyme. Was wondering what Condor was referring to.

May be it's web page problem. I,m noticing a big lag time between the posting of my PM's and getting them in my email inbox. Last week I got a ton of PM's in my email inbox from a few weeks prior, all old ones.

Others mentioned they were not being notified of replies on their posts....who knows?

Seems unlikely that no one would be around. Let's think positive.

Betty,

I sent the ist report directly to the "Report Post" in the lower right hand corner.

I would like to take a moment to give the

"Family Watchdog" site

I saw on Larry King Live. They had a show on predators with Judge Judy and gave this site to go to.

Just google it and then follow instructions. It will show the sexual predators that are registered in your area.

Maybe we can turn this negative into a positive by making people alert to predators who may be in your area.

We HAVE to protect our children from these beasts!!

There are several other sites that are moderated by people who themselves have tick-borne illness & actively participate in threads.

I understand what Wild Condoris saying. That situation could create a "conflict of interest". In some situations, it might be hard to step back & detach oneself from a thread when you are actually participating in the discussion that becomes heated.

There may also be a perception of unfairness, based on the associations/friendships a person has established on the board, even IF an action may have been justified.

It's a very tricky situation.

Perhaps if there were rules set that a moderator could not take personal action against someone in a thread where they've participated in on-topic discussion?

Then, in the absence of another moderator, they would have to abstain from participating in thread "conversations" until another moderator was on-board because they would no longer be able to control any threads they'd become involved in.

Perhaps a "new moderator probation period" where the ability to ban a user was restricted to users in the "junior member" and possibly "member" status(I'm not sure how many posts changes your level) and only a "veteran" moderator would be able to ban anyone of "contributor" status or above.?

Maybe the person(s) could be assigned a second user ID that could be "blocked" and only activated when the regular moderator(s) are not available.

Would you think something like that might work, Wild Condor? Do I understand the reason for what you are saying?

[confused]

So who is the moderator that has lyme and participates on this site, per condor's post?

I only see LouB pop in now and then mostly to praise or try to calm down a post that is starting to go ballistic. Please advise.

jenifer has lyme.... but all members of the rest of the board of directors has lyme too except loub and wife, angela.

not sure of bill stolow, jenifer's dad!

our 2 techs have lyme...tom and i can't think of other person's name.

fyi, lou b has been working the last 2 years since his fatal heart attack brought back to life twice .. on writing rules for MEMBERS HERE to be moderators who can do so much.

loub/jenifer would BAN SPAMMERS/PORNO FOLKS/ and members like they have done in the past.

lou hasn't finished this work; keeps getting interrupted due to his health problems.

they will then ask for volunteers; those they chose will HAVE TRAINING before starting their new VOLUNTEER DUTIES. that was in the last note loub sent me about member moderators.

fyi, yes, i have offered to help moderate this board since i spend time here along with others; it's a huge job since this board is so very active.

I don't think it was intended as a reference to Jen, nor this site. At least that was not how I interpreted it.

I don't recall her actually making a connection between those two and I know there's been a lot going on on other sites. I've heard things through the grapevines and seen some of it myself.

[confused]

So I went back a few pages and all those nasty posts seem to be gone so the moderators must be getting our abuse reports, yet; there still are no moderators listed.

Any one get any scoop why? Should we contact them thru the abuse tool and ask and let them know.

Could it be they are not aware of this??

Any thoughts?

I sent a note to a guy & he offed them.

what do you mean a guy? One of the moderators?

HeeHeeHee - I was teasing.

I got creative and thought outside the box.

I'm still wondering if Lou's OK. [Frown]

I contacted them thru the abuse tool to ask what is going on and voice concern. I hope someone tells us soon. Clearly, they are getting the abuse messages.

Lou and I were both on vacation last week. We removed our names from the moderator list. That is why you did not see our names. All "Report Post" emails get sent to all those listed as a moderator for that forum. Regardless if any one is listed as a moderator or not, it gets sent to me.

My twin sister was sick for years; could barely go to school. Doctors said there was nothing wrong with her, that it was all in her head and to give her more attention.

Finally, she was diagnosed and treated. My parents didn't want any other parent to have to go through what they went through, so they started a support group that physically met once a month, or so.

Then, these two college kids asked my parents if they could turn their group into an online forum for their senior thesis. My parents said ok. That was in 1994. Marc and Tom are still associated with LymeNet. I took over webmaster in 2001.

My younger sister was treated when my twin was diagnosed and hasn't had a symptom since (knock on wood).

I have been treated since then on and off.

My mom, Carol, is currently being treated and thinks she has had Lyme for over 30 years.

My dad, Bill, does not have Lyme.

I will now go through the emails that was sent my way last week.

Take care!

Hi Jennifer,

I received a pm from you that the porn sight was removed. Thank You!!! I hope you and Lou enjoyed your vacations. Sorry to hear all that you and your family has been through and wishing brighter days ahead,

jenifer,

thx more for the history of this and we have marc and tom to thank for writing their thesis AND GETTING LYMENET UP AND RUNNING WITH YOUR FAMILIES HELP!!!

thank you to the entire lymenet moderator staff/board of directors for us to come to a SAFE haven to be educated and receive support.

i too hope you had a great week of vacation of fun vs. family health issues. [Smile] hugs/kisses

Hi Jenifer! [hi]

Thanks so much for posting here. I'm so glad to know that both you & Lou are OK! [group hug]

Thank you also for explaining how the "report post" feature works. [Smile]

I'm very sorry for all that your family has been through. I hate the thought that other families also suffer these struggles & know this pain. [group hug]

I am grateful to you, your mom & dad, Tom, Marc & Lou for all that you have done & continue to do, so unselfishly, to help others.

Without your combined efforts, I might still be believing that I had Fibromyalgia after two weeks of Amoxicillin and/or some serious emotional disturbance that I might SOMEHOW be doing this all to myself.

Worse yet, without Lymenet, there are times when I may not have had the strength, will or understanding to continue trying to fight this and likely would never have found out about my umpteen co-infections. [Eek!] scary thought!

I'm also grateful to all of the Lymenet users who've share information with me & supported me throughout this ordeal.

You've all made a huge difference in my life & the lives of my family. May God bless and watch over all of you! [group hug]

I'm glad to know that we have you back & to know that you're all still here with/for us. [kiss]

Thanks again!
[group hug]

Would you think something like that might work, Wild Condor? Do I understand the reason for what you are saying?

[confused]

It would be a conflict of interest, is what I was saying earlier. Meaning, if one of us became moderator, it would never be fair to anyone. Too many opinions would make things messy, and moderator power in the wrong hands would likely drive what Veterans are left on here away for good. Hang in there folks [Smile]
