Hello,

I have had chronic lyme for 8 years, with symptoms only controlled while on abx. I am pregnant for the first time, and have feel terrific! Amazingly well, almost completely normal and healthy.

Does any one understand medically why this happens to some chronic lyme patients during pregnancy? I am hoping to sustain this after the preg.

Thanks

Bb triggers excess Th1 immune response, which leads to inflammation, and in turn many of the symptoms lymies experience. During pregnancy, the body biases the immune response away from Th1 and toward Th2 so as to not reject the fetus. With less Th1 response, there is less inflammation, so you feel better.

I had undiagnosed Lyme when I was pregnant in 1986 & 1990. I felt great during my 1st pregnancy and terrible during my 2nd pregnancy.

What dguy said is precisely correct. It is akin to corticosteroids though - bacteria and viruses multiply freely due to supressed immune system.

Then after pregnancy you might start feeling worse (due to inflammation and higher bacterial load) It is speculated post partum depression could be caused by this effect

If you have not done so already, you should look into chaecking your Thyroid.

Saw something on Mystery DX(TV Show) and the lady was going down hill and could not figure it out but got pregnant and felt better.

After the pregnancy (3 months) it went rwal bad again.

sge finally figured it out and it was her Thyroid

I read somewhere in Dr. B's guidelines something about feeling better during pregnancy but can't remember why

I also felt great during pregnancy, even though I had undiagnosed Lyme at the time.
